Skipper buil by JF Jet Studio-latest video

Recently moved house, finding much nicer beaches to fly my jets and as a bonus I got also at my door step large lake I found it could be an ideal place for sea or float models I have never got chance or desire to fly in the past. Being EDF and turbine specialist now days I have some experience flying large scale helicopters off the water but itís a time to try something different, so after some inquiries I got my hands on HK Skipper to start with.
Being a cheap ARF foamy built by some factory workers who probably never visited flying field or seen model aero to fly the first thing I have found after some brief inspection this model wouldnít last one flight. So I ripped out all the plastic horns from control surfaces. There was so much of play that it simply would not work. Ply wood sheeting blocks will be in-bedded into the foam before the horns are fitted back for precise controls so I can enjoy flying this model for many years to come. Using 5 and 15 min. epoxy the whole model is being put together. To get better bonding, all join surfaces are pinned with the pointer. Probably the easiest model to put together makes it even more exiting for impatient builders. I have hook it to two transmitters one using traditional 5ch FM RX. and other one 7ch 2.4 GHz RX. to centre and adjust all servos. Throttle didnít need any adjustments working great the full range so the next step was some static testing. Using 2.2Ah 30C pack the full stick current was 20A/228Watts, at Ĺ it drew only 10A/110Watts. Under the load it read 11.7 V with 3S batt. After some flying using the stock set up I will experiment with some upgrades so stay tuned for more results. Before maiden Iím going to give it bit of hand paint job to make it look my way. J.

To minimize possibility of water getting in I sealed off all joints on the belly and the top of fuselage using white silicon. After unsatisfactory range check with 5ch. FM RX I switched to 9ch. SPCM RX I find fool proof for anything up to 6S. J.

I logged my first flight this morn by hand launch, little shocked how sensitive all controls were despite less than half of recommended travel. 25-30% TA is probly all I need for enjoyable flying. Lively model all I can say. Just bought a small alum boat with 3HP out board I will dolly to the ramp loaded with picnic, fishing rod, "Skipper" and my darling. Looking forward to it, J.

After few flights of getting used to it by hand launch, I took it out for the test flight off the water in light drizzle. All went brilliant as expected, tho more modifications needed for better manouvrebility while taxiing. Stay tuned, J.

My latest addition to the Skipper is rudder with more authority while taxiing in the water, works wonders, J.

Despite the wet weather we are presently experiencing the bird is pushing it's limits even in the light drizzle, so far so good. Too dull for the video so hopefully the sun will shine again soon, J.

Get some ski jumping gear and off to the Calgary ski jump, my favoured. Today went fishing, no fish but great flying instead, J.

What a perfect Easter Saturday, bit of fishing, BBQ lunch at the beach, afternoon siesta and finishing it off with few Skipper flights still in one piece after almost 100 flights logged, J.

Nice day for flying my Skipper today, after yesterday's budget announcement by the government that we all will have to work till we are 70 YO.! Well, there is 30-40% youth unemployment, so I don't know how that's going to work. Any ideas? J.
