Does anyone know if this company is getting out of the 1/24 scale RC tanks? They do not show any 1/24 scale on their website. I have seen them 2 Emails, asking this question, and they have not responed.

Very interesting rmar ... it would be good to know if they are abandoning the 1/24 scale tanks, so I am very interested as well.

I am just in the beginning stages of trying to start up a local 1/24 scale RC infrared battle tank club myself (just finished the new website & took it live the other day), though I'm a little biased in hoping new members would bring VSTank Pro tanks into the club anyway since I own 6 of those myself ... I still wasn't going to turn away those wanting to join that might already own the FOV models.

But knowing if that 1/24 line is now discontinued, or soon will be, then I sure would try to encourage new members considering purchasing a new 1/24 scale, to steer clear of FOV & purchase VSTank Pro 1/24 instead (probably would try to convince new members anyway ... haha ) ... discontinued may mean less expensive to purchase at some point, but it also means no company support at all & certainly will mean no available spare parts to fix broken tanks at some point down the road.

Well, I went to the FOV website and used their online contact form to ask the following question the other day:

Have you discontinued manufacturing the Forces of Valor 1/24
scale RC tanks and will not be producing them or any new 1/24 scale FOV
battle tank models in 2012 or in the future?

I received an email today with the following info:

Hello Craig, as of right now, they are still very much in production but
we are not introducing any new models for 2012 yet. Please check back
periodically for new information on this and all the Unimax lines.

I have sent them a follow-up question asking why they do not show any of their FOV 1/24 scale tanks on their own website, because it does seem odd if they are continuing to produce more of the existing models throughout the year, but don't even list any of them like they do with all the other scale tanks they produce. If I get an answer I'll update the thread again.

Craig - you must have the magic touch - I did the same thing about 2 weeks ago and have not received any kind of reply. Interesting that they are not doing anything new for 2012 but they say they are still into 1/24 rc scale.

I guess time will tell - thanks for the info !!

Well, I did send them a follow-up asking about why the 1/24 scale tanks are not listed anywhere on their website, I gave them 5 days to respond & I received no reply ... so I guess the magic touch is now gone.

I will ask again though, I don't give up very easily, I'll probably get email banned.

To me it just makes no sense to have all the other tank scales showing on their site, yet leave out the 1/24 scale ... especially when they tell you that they are continuing to produce them throughout 2012. Seems more like they are ramping down or possibly halting new production, continuing to sell existing stock through 3rd party vendors until supplies dry up, & probably discontinuing that line. I don't sound too optimistic, do I?

Then again, I could be 100% incorrect with that assumption going on just that limited amount of info. Anyone else have any thoughts on this odd circumstance?

Sorry Tom, I wish I could help in directly answering that question for you by way of personal experience, but I have only owned the VSTanks, & have never even seen a FOV tank in person.

For the price I paid to Toyeast for 6 VSTank Pro tanks shipped directly to me (under $90/tank 4+ years ago), it has turned out to be an excellent value for what I have gotten out of them in my opinion.

In reading over as much information as can be gathered, the overall consensus I came up with seems to point out the below info:

VSTank the pros:

1. The VSTanks have a finer cosmetic detailing to the overall look of the exterior of the tanks.
2. The VSTanks possibly have a better/higher grade of electronics used in them. Again, I can't be 100% certain about this, that is what I had read from other sources I had previously found over the years.
3. Though I could be wrong on both these points,VSTanks now have up to at least 12 frequencies available, which I assume should enable up to a 12 tank battle, & I believe FOV still have just 6 frequencies to choose limiting their battles to 6 tanks.

Forces of Valor the pros:

1. Include an IR practice target with their kits.
2. The sounds can be turned off/on by holding down both turret rotation buttons on the controller for five seconds.
3. The tanks & controllers have a power saving mode that shut them down automatically (saving battery) after a certain amount of inactivity.
4. It is possible to program F.O.V. tanks to form into up to three different teams. This means that members of the same team will not be able to inflict damage, or what's known as 'friendly fire', on each other.
5. You can purchase Defender accessory units like an IR anti-tank gun that has a separate sensing unit to activate it where it fires IR beams every 4 seconds to hit nearby tanks in its aimed pathway, adding another dimension of unmanned battling units to the battles.

With the limited amount of information available from different sources discussing their experience with either of these brands, it still seems that many more have been satisfied or genuinely happy with their purchases than have been totally dissatisfied or unhappy with them. So if a tanker can be happy with a 1/24 scale IR battling tank, I think they may be happy with choosing either of these brands.

As far as the pros go above, turning the sound off never mattered to me, & it would be better to have control over the volume levels rather than just an on/off function. Some owners of either brand think the sounds are fine on the tanks, others hate them, & I never did mind the sound, it was always OK for me & added to the effect & overall experience when battling them. Though I would have liked a volume control for the times when I didn't need to hear the tank from 40+ feet away since the battle was indoor & merely 15 feet away .

I know there will be many people who like it, but I also don't consider the #4 FOV pro an actual pro at all, as I would never use it ... I think it's called 'cheating' , & takes away from an actual battle experience where friendly fire is always an unfortunate possibility & part of real battles! Though I guess it's a neat feature to have for the inexperienced & young ones to use when they are allowed to battle.

A few years ago the FOV tanks also came with a controller which many people thought was much better than the controllers that came with the VSTank line. However, back in either late 2010 or early 2011, VSTank started shipping a new dual stick controller, getting rid of the bazillion buttons that used to be on the face of their controllers, so now I don't believe FOV has a controller advantage any more.

If I was just starting out myself right now, having had no prior experience with either of these brands, I might very well choose the FOV line because of their cool extras, like the IR target that comes with the tank & the ability to add an unmanned battle component to any battle, such as the anti-tank gun.

However, since I already know what I'm getting as far as quality & value with VSTank Pro tanks, & since I already have 6, I will still purchase more VSTanks the next time I decide to add to my 1/24 scale collection.

Also, as far as I know, the VSTank & FOV lines use different IR emitters/receivers, so you cannot mix & match these 2 brands in battles with each other, at least not without some innovative changes to those components.

Craig thanks for the info. I just started this hobby of RC Tanks about a year ago. I have several (9) Heng Long 1/16 RC Tanks, but I would like to find something that I can use in my garage on those days when the weather isn't ideal for tanks battles. I have built about 11 building to 1/16 scale that I use with my HL tanks, but they take up too much garage space
and I can’t get a good battle going. I did buy a Panzer IV (FOV) yesterday to see if the 1/24 scale would work better in the garage instead of the HL. I will keep you posted about the FOV.

Excellent objective assessment of both product lines. Our PacNW club, NORDPAC, have members who have each of them. I have 1/16 HLs, Matorros, Tamis and WSNs but also battle with FOVs which I've found to be very durable and reliable indoors and out.

Good luck with the new FOV tank, I hope it works out for you & your garage battles, but I have to admit, being a VSTank guy myself, I'm deeply saddened by your choice of FOV over VSTank! ( ha ha ) Actually, I'm just glad to see another RC tanker possibly taking up the 1/24 scale & enjoying it, even if the poor things are relegated to indoor garage battles only.

... though I have to say WOW, 9 HLs with (11) 1/16 buildings to go with them ... I'm jealous

You should start a thread, if you haven't already, & post pictures of all your tanks & buildings, I think a lot of members would like to see them! ... just say'n

Thanks, I do try to be objective & as upfront as I can, & though I really like my 1/24 VSTanks & could easily suggest even the best of my friends to go get some, it's hard to outright tell someone they are definitely the right or better choice over the FOV tanks which I have yet to get my hands on at all.

I think if I had originally purchased some FOV tanks several years ago, I might have been just as happy with them as I have been with my VSTanks.

So the only things I might ponder as possible negatives with Unimax & the 1/24 FOV line going forward:

1. The inconsistency with their email support system response when they are contacted, sometimes responding, other times no response after multiple attempts. Sure would be nice if FOV/Unimax would respond to email questions about why they do not list their 1/24 line of tanks on their own website.
2. Whether Unimax will continue to make the 1/24 scale & keep expanding on the line with new tank models & accessories in the future.

I bring up the later point because Unimax did inform me they have no plans to expand the line in 2012, as well as their lack of showing the FOV 1/24 scale tanks on their own website, & them not responded to a couple follow-up emails asking them for a simple explanation; which is puzzling to say the least, but may actually mean nothing at all as far as implications that the line may have a doomed future ... all we can do is speculate, & prospective buyers must decide whether either of these are really any concern at all if they are going to choose FOV for their 1/24 tank option.

I was just hoping for some pictures of your already finished buildings (& your tanks) when I previously asked, but posting some photos of the newer houses you are currently building, while still in the various construction stages, would really be waaaayyyyy cool!

It always amazes me (envious too) when I see all the battlefield accessories with the fine detail, knowing the countless amount of time & effort modelers put into them to make everything during battle day seem so more realistic for everyone else who participates ... a true appreciation & applause is in order!
