Hi. I'm using 3S 5300 mAh and 3 blade VarioPros 5.8", motors are TowerPro 1500kv. With this setup I can fly for more than 20 minutes.

Depeche and Mark 2 - thanks for the info, and good to see some other folks enjoying the Albatross. Do you know what your AUW is? I tried to keep it reasonably light (although the wing is by nature a bit hefty), but even with lipos have come in at 1.3 KG (the instructions spec 1.25-1.35 kg, and that is with nicads!). Mark2 - were you able to balance without weight in the nose?

Hi Jim, yes, no added weight at all, though I do have the battery pushed right up front as far as it will go. CG is in the recommended position like that and generally she handles fine in the air, although she will drop a wing fairly sharply if provoked.

Do you fly her off water, or grass? Ever hand launch her? I can fly from my bowrider, but would rather do first flights from a field in case I have any, ummm, issues.

Would be interested in all up weight if you know it.

Thanks again.

Mine is 1.4kg with a BIG battery in the front. I think everything under 1.5kg is fine. Go from the water and remember to fix small floats well. I'm using 3 mm nylon bolts.

I fly mine from the water, but I think they would hand launch quite well. I think I would be tempted to remove the tip floats if flying over grass.

Picture Link for Stephano's Fabulous Albatros

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I recieved a very nice surprise today in my RC Groups messages. A text with Stephanos update to his Grumman Albatros. It was damaged in the maiden flight. Steph explained how he lost his server and the result was a loss of all the posted pictures. Well with his best wishes we will have access to all the pictures and videos for study once again. This is the link for all the pictures that were related to the build Log that used to be posted in the Build Log thread. See #100 for the pictures link. Read more there

Beautiful planes and nice detailing. They sure will look great in the air. Can you tell us more about the planes power systems with construction and electronics details? I think it is helpful for others to learn from your acheivments here.
Thanks and Welcome!

Hi.
I used in HU-16 two TowerPro B2409-12 motors with VarioProp 3 blade 5.8" ESC Turnigy 30A servos are HS 65HB for elevator and rudder and MKS DS 470 for ailerons. I needed some weight in the front so I decided to use Lipo 3S 5300 mAh. The model flies even better than it looks. Every year I take a part with him in our national seaplanes championships. Since it has such a big battery I can fly it for whole round more than 15 minutes.

Very nice setup. It is quite a nice flyer. My Albatros is home made and it just has that nice look in the air if flying at a scale speed. I have 2 - 2200mah 3s lipolys stacked. Mainly to get my CG balanced. I can fly 2 long flights on it over 5 minutes too. It is one of my favorites. If I made the plane again it would be nose loaded batteries.
Thanks,

I visited Bradley Air Museum last Oct 13, 2013 and they got another Coast Guard Albatros Hu-16E- Miami CG7228 in.The last was the Cape Cod some years ago. I did a 360 walkaround and got some nice video. Mostly the landing gear, fuse sides, and underside wings. I went last year also and it was not there. The sign says it was flown in a year ago.

Go to the 24:08 minute mark.
