I built another Penguin last week with the intention for line of sight only flying. It will be the RMRC demo plane and one to take to shows. This one is equipped with the smaller 2220power package. Today was finally nice enough to fly, but very windy with gusts at 22mph. It was hard to get the wings together at the field with the wind buffering everything around and I was worried about take off.





I set the Penguin down facing the wind and it jumped into the air after minimal throttle (wind helped here) It needed some downward trim on the elevator after takeoff, but after the correction I was doing full throttle loops and rolls in no time. Wow, I can't believe how well this plane handles wind! At no time did the wind push a wing over or make me feel uncombortable. I even did some "thumbs off" flying to see what it would do and it was still stable. The rolls took some rudder and upward elevator to make them look nice, but it was better than most non 3D models I have owned. I don't have any video since I was by myself, but I plan on getting some good LOS video next week possibly. This model, with the expos and EPA's turned down, would be great for someone just learning to fly and could still be fun for a seasoned pilot.

Great to know it does well in a wind as here in stinking NJ we have windy season :-)

Not sure how I'd check the concentricity, but I did note that with the M2815 motor running, that the tail shakes some, at least it shakes more than any of my other planes tails shake, but I'd thought that was due to the long slender tail boom - maybe it's not?

At any rate, I don't deem the tail shaking to be severe enough not to launch as soon as the winds calm down a bit - wrong season for that though.

And I didn't use that horrendous sounding 3 bladed 9x5 prop - I'm using an APC 9x6E on 3 cells.

Yep, just submit a ticket on the RMRC website if you find it to be defective.

I hope that is the right GPS cable extension. I ordered it last night as well as an extra cockpit canopy.

So whats the idea with the wooden washers ( as per instructions) the will point the motor upwards
Shouldnt they go on the bottom screws??
Or, do we really need them??

I believe it is to put air over the tail surfaces mostly.

Since the washers are on top, it actually tilts the motor downward. It has flown perfectly like this, so I haven't found the need to experiment or change them.

Maybe you could experiment with yours and let everyone know?

Not to poke the eyes LOL, but if you put wooden washers on two top screws of the motor mount the motor is tilted backwards but the force (pushing) is directed up :-).
Where , normally in pusher planes you want the center of the force ( pushing) in this case motor shaft pointing ( forward) as close to CG of the plane as possible.
So this is why I am a bit confused.
