What is it about quads that you guys find it's more fun than flying helicopters?

Cheap, easy, 6-axis stabilization, blade guards, FPV, return to home, no linkage, no clutch, no belts, indoor, safer (with blade guard), RTF, orientation LEDs. Can even go inverted a buddy says...

I thought quads were ugly. Didn't even like the idea of one. Till someone here on the groups bought me a cheap one and sent it to me. I havn't flown a copter since. And now I have six quads. They are super for camera platforms and FPV.

I can see it being a good camera platform and own one but I get more enjoyment in flying a heli.

Hi Vince, If you don't own or ever flown a quad how can you possibly come to this conclusion? Quads are much more stable flying outside than a heli.

Mike.

With very little effort I can fly my quad a couple of feet off the ground. It is very stable yet responsive. I can fly in three modes and have altitude hold and auto flip. With a lemon receiver, I just added it to my other Spektrum stuff. There is no comparison.

Hi Mike, I did state that I "own one" on my post. It's one of those palm size, has 6axis but very hard to control and the props keep flying off on every crash. Got tired of looking for the props and now it's just sitting with my micro coax.

My quad sits gathering dust. Simply the most boring flying I have ever done with anything. No skill required other than some simple orientation with the sticks. Perfect for anyone with little talent. I myself will forever be an avid heli guy.

You should try an Invertix!

FWIW, the Eflite 200QX, with the special blades, can fly inverted too.

Had the first Stingray cp quad in my hands, upgraded it to 6s. Put in my own custom wound motor as it was belt driven. Flies inverted, still boring. Quad gone. New 800 in its place. lol. Plans are in the works for a true 700 cp coaxial dual swash Tri rotor.

Sounds like it will be quite a machine. Keep us posted and include pics along the way.

The gentleman who designed the Chase and sent me the early Chase prototype to do a build thread with, offered to help do some cad work when time allows. I already penned out a new drive system that cuts down the gear train in half. The real issue as usual is the cost of custom fabbed parts, and of course integrating a good fbl unit into the mix.

Still love coaxial design! I just wish you guys had ever flown a modded cp dual swash CX. They are more amazing than plain cp helis by far. And yes usually quads make better cam platforms. But so do Sk720 equipped helis with a % of SL engaged, as they are just as stable, but far more versatile. Add in their gps feature, which is still the best in the industry. ( And fpv, like the guys flying them at our field). Then they are downright amazing. Return home feature, position hold, flight deck safe net, bailout, ect ect. Oh yeah, invert also. So you can do all your 3d work with gps involved. Quad or helis. Pretty cool.

Its like a harley to a honda. Harley is like a helicopter. Looks badass and rough around the edges. Honda like a quad. Slick and new school. I just stay old school i think.

I can't remember the name of it, but a good 4 or more years ago there was an all metal coax that was about $1,000 that had all of the stuff you're looking for. There have also been a few college sponsored projects that looked promising. Gigantic heli's, no matter what drive system, are a little too overwhelming for me.
