Build Log
Sopwith Camel

Well, I'm in college now, at Embry Riddle, and I'm building a Sopwith Camel in my dorm. Yep, its made by Guillow and has a 28" wingspan, and I'm putting a little Cox .049 in it. I think it'll be r/c too. However, none of that really matters right now cause although I have the room and tools to build it and probably cover it, mount the engine, etc, I won't have the funds to buy and put in the electronics yet. So for now, I'm just building it and mounting the .049. I'll try and get as many pics as I can.

Eric

Hi, I built the Thomas Morse Scout and it was a great flyer with a
Cox Black Widow swinging a 8 X 4 prop. Your Camel is larger so the
motor wont stick way out like mine did.
modifications--used spruce or popsicle sticks for the struts,
and arrange the landing gear held with rubber bands because
it will get torn off.
For battery pack I hard soldered 4 AA duracell Ultra's and that
lasted for a lot of flying.
My model had just rudder and elevator control and was just fine
but I couldnt do rolls which scare me anyway.
The Camel has enough dihedral in that lower wing it would'nt need
ailerons to turn well.
Good Luck !
