Question
Ignition and receiver battery mounted together?

A little background...

I have a Slipstream SBach. At the moment the CG is 166 mm aft of the leading edge, but it needs to be at 150 mm (16 mm further forward). The only thing with any weight I can think of to move forward is the receiver battery. Of course, the ignition battery is already up at the front.

This is a basic setup - no IBECs; one battery for the ignition and one for the receiver. I've done some research online and talked to some other RC fliers and I've gotten conflicting information. so...

Question: Can ignition and receiver batteries be mounted in close proximity to one another?

Cheers!

Yes. You can tape them together if you like. What size is this Plane ? Sounds like its big enough not to worry about 1/2" or 16mm as you put it.

As other guy says - no problem to put together.

You could if you want to increase size of one pack and make it do both jobs - removing the other completely. Connecting it via Y lead ... one to Rx .. other to CD Ignition box.

The ignition pack in fact does not have to be big ... because engine uses CD system ... the demand on battery is remarkably low.

Thanks for the input, guys.

It's a 29% SBach 342 with a DA 50R. And while 16 mm (closer to 5/8", actually) doesn't sound like much I really don't want my hands full with a tail heavy aircraft when I (re-)maiden it this spring.

Here's a diagram of the current setup:

And here's what I thought might work for me:

I had a IBEC on my ignition in my 30% Edge. It was simple. IBEC goes to the RX and I ran a Single A123 2500 mah LIFE battery. I loved it. It had its own kill switch integrated.

I'd like to keep the receiver battery. My plan would be to run each set of wires down its own side of the fuselage with the only connection a fibre optic link between the ignition cutoff tx and rx... like so:

Looks like it well work. I needed a little weight behind the CG , nose heavy, so I stacked Rx and Ing batteries behind servo tray in my big stik.
