If you want to do a side paddle-wheeler train ferry,why not to one of the greatest and at 424 feet long and 116 feet wide she was for a long time the largest of them all; the Central Pacific Railway Company's Railroad Ferry Steamer "Solano," that carried trains across the Straits of Carquinez between Port Costa and Benicia on the northern San Francisco Bay leading up to the Sacramento Delta or her sister ship the Southern Pacific's Contra Costa that plied the same waters. At 433 feet long by 116 feet over the guards, the Contra Costa supplanted the Solano as the rail largest ferry ever built. Both remained in service until the 1930s
