My friend got this sail from his grandfather and wanted to know what it's worth.
Theres a bunch of paper work with Reynolds one design so I guess that's the maker and it has a 6' mass.

You have uncovered what looks to be yet another Marblehead 50/800.
The sails that fit on that 72" mast probably have a 64" mainsail luff.



This one, in it's present condition looks to need some serious love. In it's present condition it's probably worth $50-$100.
If it was in un-restored original, functional no-issues condition It's probably worth about $400

Surely it would be an interesting boat to sail with the keel/rudder arangement

part of the answer is on that label inside the hull, I can make out it is hull number
2, what other info is on that sticker ?
are there any identifing marks on the sail itself, like a logo ? or numbers ?
and the main thing-how long and wide is the boat --kind of hard to tell from the pictures...
I wonder, could this be an old 12 meter ? built by Reynolds ?
that bead/chain drive is certainly interesting.
and I guess the rudder is missing ?

I don't know what else is on the sticker I can check next time I go over there. I didn't see any marks or logos but his grandfather was very organized and has all the receipts, manual and instruction I'm sure it's some type of Reynolds boat. Its pretty big I would say something like 4' long 10" wide ball park. The rudder isn't missing its right there at the back of the bottom fin.

Howdy neighbor, I am in hydesville. This is not my boat its a friends plus he said the sail has a rip in it. I was just checking for him on the value of it. I know it looks bad in the pics but its in really good shape just dusty.

If you measured exactly how long it is, you will find that the boat is 50 inches long.
In that circumstance, what you have is called a Marblehead Class

Yes, you are right, the rudder is attached. I was referring to it's sailing properties with the design and placement of the keel and rudder.

Marblehead designed in the early days of mass model radio control?
After the adoption of integrated circuits made modern radio control systems possible, but while boat design thinking was still along the lines of vane steering. Back then the rudder was there to perform not so much a change of course as to keep the boat on the chosen heading. Being integrated with the fin probably minimised drag and being down there would never be above the surface. A surfaced rudder hanging off the stern does little steering.

He is the current Marblehead Class National Champion.


His boats are surely on an advanced level, and so is his sailing skill. He's definetley someone you want to be in-touch with.

Marblehead champion, that's cool what do you have to do to get that title. The boat is a friends plus it has a tear in the sail.

I cant help you with the value of the hull, but I have some information about John Reynolds.

John Reynolds made hulls from the late 60's thru the 70's and maybe into the early 80's. John passed away in Oct 1982. So the hull could be 30 to 40 years old.
