What is the purpose of the Toroid on the Rx Lead?

I have the Rx lead from the ICE 50 Lite going into the throttle port of an SK-540 flybarless gyro. Since I am using an external BEC, I have the red wire removed from the connector.

Is the toroid around which the Rx lead is wrapped still necessary given new 2.4ghz receivers and digital gyros?

Please advise. Thanks,

This is one of those questions that has a try it and see answer!
The toroid is intended to act as a noise filter.
