straightening aluminum pipe
I bent some boom supports on my heli and tried to straighten them by hand and now they resemble a couple of snakes. They are made of aluminum With an outside diameter of 6mm and inside diameter of 4mm. Any tips on an easy way to get them straight again would be greatly appreciated!

Does that bring back memories.... Is the boom support open so you can slide a wire inside of it? If so find a wire that is just a tad smaller than the ID of the support. Round the end as best as possible. You don't want any sharp edges. Lots of lubricant is your friend now. Force the wire to the first kink and VERY lightly tap the outside with a hammer. If you have a soft face hammer all the better. Tap all around the outside at the kink until it is removed. Keep pushing the wire in and tapping the outside of the support.
I used to do this with tail booms and a wood dowel after a boom strike. The booms were never perfect, but good enough.
It is probably not worth the effort to straiten the supports for the cost of replacements but if you have to order parts it will get you buy for the time being.

A couple of carbon fiber arrows the right size might replace them. You could straighten them by taking a very straight 3/4" x 4" board the right length and on a hard surface use the board to press the worst of the bends out and then roll the boom under the board with pressure and it will straighten out pretty good.
