64K campac build thread?

Does anyone know of a build for a 64k campac for a futaba 8U?

I would like a 64k module rather than a 16k module.

Thanks,
Howard

You could build 4 16K modules or just buy a 64K Campac from HansenHobbies:
http://www.hansenhobbies.com/products/txacc/64k/
for $ 35, they have Campac up to 256K for a bit more!

The build link for the 16K:

This seems Ok if you can tranlate it

Chips are harder to come by lately like heliphil said. Add to it the cost of getting the connector, time, board, and so on and $35 is cheap.

Radical RC sells them too and their shipping is cheap http://www.radicalrc.com/category/Radio-Upgrades-300

I built one of these 5 years ago and still use it. But I have to agree that at today's prices, you want to have to want to build it to make it worth your time.

the one on rcdesign looks good, but i can't find the software that goes into the attiny15. If i could find the source code, i could port it to a more available Atmel chip, like the attiny25 or something. It would also be nice to have the software which enables the campac to be backed up onto a pc as well as being able to see the data.
I'll do my part if anyone wants to help.

I have made 4 of 64K module from the information of these sites. It works great.

Sorry this site is in Japanse and the other is French.

thats great info, but its machine code not source code. as i don't work with pics, i would have to hand assemble the machine code into pic assembly language and then translate into Atmel assembly or 'C'. Not worth the trouble for a DIY project. Thanks though, i thought this thread was no longer being looked at.

Can't help with source code. At one point I disassembled the hex code. But I'm a rank amateur with ASM and didn't really take it any further. I do recall that the original site had an explanation of what Futaba did to produce their proprietary memory implementation. It said they flipped one single bit in a memory address word. The ATTiny flipped the bit back and then everything works as normal in the serial EEPROM. I couldn't tell you what bit they flipped, but if you are good with ASM and can disassemble the hex, this might give you a clue as to what is going on.

from what i've read, the 24C16 requires two bytes to address it, but a number of the bits of the first byte are not being used (chip selects in essence). The 24C64 requires three bytes to address it. What futaba has done is to embed the high order bits of the address for the 24C64 in the first byte of the two byte sequence. The pic's job is to decode the high order address and then transmit the three byte address to the 24C64, and of course return the data to futaba. while this is not easy to do, it is not really hard either ... but ... there are timing restrictions. i have not read how these restrictions are overcome.

The differences between a 9ZAP and 9ZHP are very minor. It will work in either.
