oh it was all my fault Peter, i did the lower half of the fuse first in which there is the same amount of slots for the stringer ends at the front and the rear of the fuse. i then went and started the top half of the fuse starting at the K2 top keel and working my way down the sides, only to discover that there is one less stringer slot in the F9TA former than in the F6TA former. i just made my self an extra slot in each side of the F9TA former to locate the stringer in question.
if i had been a smart cookie i would have done as Pete (Glongflyer) did and just herringboned the stringers so that the rear of the stringers closest to K2 terminated at K2/F9TA join. Cheers Craig |

just ordered a motor, something a little tamer than the Emax ones i have laying about here and was thinking of using. from the reviews i have been reading we are looking at about 450W using a 12 x 6 prop and 3S pack, so still a fair bit more poke than will be required, but it is a bit lighter, and looking at how this one is building, and the longish nose i don't want any extra weight up front if i don't need it, there is a lot of wood up front!

bit more sheeting and carving done today, think its time to change my name to Geppetto finished the rest of the forward sheeting, carved up and sanded the underside acces hatch. did the same for the underside tail blocks. went over all the stringers with the sanding bar to remove any high spots and get everything down to the level of the sheeting. to protect the sheeting and let me know when i had gone far enough i put duct tape up against the edge of the stringers and sand away until the sanding bar just starts scuffing the tape. next job was the cockpit opening, more duct tape over the target area to help stop me cracking the sheeting or tearing it up, took a couple of goes drawing the opening until i was happy, and in the end made a half template which i taped to the center line, traced around then flipped over for the other side. then cut it out.

Nice work Craig I've fallen behind. Your cut out for the cockpit is different to what I have done. I just could not bring it down that far off the views I have. I will look at again. Must say having you building at the same stage is good as it is helping me with both seeing things and wanting to keep up.

mate i am all systems go while i am in town, but i work away on a week on week off roster so i am not likely to go screaming off ahead though i will be in town for a few extra days at the moment as i am playing nursemaid for the wife who started with the flu and has ended up with pneumonia.
regarding the cockpit, i did mine by eye after having a good look at the plastic model, so i would think that yours would be more accurate. i hate cutting cockpit openings, i made my Pfalz one too small, and the pilot looked like the plane was built around him, and he was flying a bloody bomber Cheers Craig |

opened up the slot a little for the tail skid after not allowing for the thickness of it.
spent some time framing up the tail surfaces, used the laminations that i had made up previously, tomorrow i will sand them nice and flat and shape them. then it will be time to make up the joining linkand put some planing into the control cable, and sleeve mounting so that i can button up the last of the sheeting. had a bit of a look today and decided that some HS82mg's will do for the rudder and elevator servos, might use the same for aileron, and flaps too. Cheers Peter, I was going to double check with you on that, the top and bottom keels will need the same treatment. i will wait until the fuse halves are joined before i do them and then blend the whole lot.
Thanks Simon and Charles, slowly but surely it is taking shape Todays contracts have included sanding and seperating the horizontal stab, and fin, these were then sloted for CA hinges, and drilled for the elevator link. the link was bent up out of 2mm music wire, the brass control horn was then drilled, cut, and soldered in position. the elevator was dry assembled and checked for fit. i decided to use some 2-56 Sullivan Gold-n-rod to actuate the elevator as against a solid push rod, i think it will be easier to hook up when the fuse halves are joined, and the tailplane is attached, i could see the back end being a PITA to hook up unless the rear sheeting was left off until the tail plane was fitted. now i can secure th outer sleeve to the rear anchor post i fitted, and secure the front ent of the sleeve to its post as i join the fuse. then when it's time i can feed the inner snake through the sleeve as the elevator assy is mounted. now that i have it sorted i can sort out the last of the sheeting. I like your elevator link. I was waiting for you to do it and now I will have a go at doing it.

Not much done today, weather was perfect so went flying. did get the undercarrage bent up and soldered this arvo though. i have some 3''
Dubro wheels that i will probably use unless i find some rubber tyred ones that are lighter. if i use these i will just have to bush them down a bit to suit the LG wire diameter. might be time to start on the wings this evening. Craig |

Nice again I had no problem bending the front leg but I struggled with the angle for the rear support. I should get out flying too.
