Sawn Craft Paper Airplane (Not Really Paper)

Greetings All,

Just thought I would post a couple of videos of a rather "out of the ordinary" kit available from Sawn Craft...

How does a 4 ft long, 24" WS foam model of a "Paper Airplane" sound...

Finally got to maiden this plane yesterday and had a blast with it...

Pics and Videos below...

Will post more details if there is any interest...

Awesome, I just ordered one of these (my first foamy), looks like a lot of fun. Thanks for the videos, you really show off the flight envelope nicely. If you have any build pics, that would be great, too.

Was thinking of adding a rudder and I'll probably use an Orange stabilizing receiver too, that might help in a light breeze, especially at high alpha, low speed flight. In the video, it seems to really want to roll and lose altitude when turning, so using a rudder for more flat turns should make for an interesting experiment.

It floats so easily, at 600 square inches, I think I might be able to catch a thermal!

Sorry no build pics, but it does come with a build manual, and it is a pretty straight forward build...

So far I have resisted the urge to install a rudder, but pretty sure that is gonna happen, but plan ahead getting the CG right on this one is important and the tail is a long way from the CG point so gonna have to shift weight forward or my favorite solution use a bigger battery ...

FYI

Going with a 3S batt and a APC 7 X 6E Prop adds a considerable "Holy Crap" factor to this plane...

3S With Rudder Mod

Need to get this back out to the Club field with a lot of room, WOT with 3S will let this plane move rather quickly..

Rudder Mod added weight but was worth it for enhanced yaw control (i.e. it turns easier)

That thing looks like it really gets moving when you get into the throttle! Nice work on the rudder mod; do you think you could post a photo or two so we can see where you made the cuts and mounted the servo?

Roger that, should have up later this evening..

Yeah going WOT in straight and level flight was kinda surprising.. First thought was "Cool", second thought was "Gonna need a bigger field"

2S vs. 3S Speed Runs and Rudder Pics

Took a bit to get back to this...

Anyway, Weather was good this morning so decided to head out to the field for some extra space to open this plane up on 3S, also got some pics of the rudder mod.

I'm sold, when I start building mine, it's getting a rudder. The slow speed flight appears much, much better with rudder control. Nice job!

My feelings exactly, if you are running it in "Jet" mode, the rudder isn't really necessary, but in High Alpha (which is a lot of fun) the rudder really helps..

Just remembered that you mentioned an Orange Stab, have you looked at the Lemon 7 Ch Combination RX and Stab... less than $20 and has a strong following here on RCGroups...
