Build Log
1:306 scale USS Fletcher Destroyer Revell Conversion.

As the title implys This is a micro model conversion it is 14 3/4" in length. Building a micro ship has been a dream of mine since a little kid pretending there was one in the bathtub with me :P so I figureill show you my build log on this one. I have been long overdue for a build log . Sorry the photos have been taken with my cellphone camera, I will get my photographer of a brother to shoot some good ones and a vid hopefully .

The motor is a suhkoi 26m motor and gear box, I removed the drive shaft and used a wire instead and glued the gear to it. I also made a wire shaft holder twords the end. The prop is made from an air hogsducted fan blade, one i screwed up. I trimed it to get the boat to go scale speeds. (took 8 tries :P first trim the boat launched out of the water at about 10mph!)

I added the keel underwater spoiler to keep it from tipping, also reduced the speed a nice bit. But didn't solve the problem so I added micro magnets still didn't fix it but now i have to try to tip it.

I spent about 6hours painting it with cididel warhammer paints and then sealed it with a clear enamel. Still dont know if I am done painting it.

I got my brother to take some pics with his fancy camera ill post em tommarow, I hope. Video maybe too.

All in all a very easy and awesome model, everyone should try it.

Sorry for the wait

I have family in town and time has been kinda hectic but finally got the time to post some new photos, Video is still in the works, my artistic brother wants daylight if he is to do it, since the other pics he didn't like the lighting.

as far as that hole goes for the gear box, what I did was got some modeling plastic (warhammer people know it as green-stuff) and made tarps draped over the boxes that you can see by the gear and it turned out nice.

I just picked up a revell PT boat, JFK's boat to be exact... Lets see if I can find time to convert that

:edit, so my brother was right re sized edited pics hide a lot of the detail still.

working on it, family leaves in 2 hours and so ill see if i can get a vid up today.

Edit: I need to really get a camera... if you open in quicktime it has sound, this is just a speed test video I had but you can also see the tight turning radius. I start the video in scale speed, then go to full right before the turn.

I am going to find a decent camera to take a good vid with and post it later on.

The new pic is photo shopped to show better lighting.

Nah its a new revell kit. Not a waterline kit, that I know of.

Moar pix I found a crappy 7megapixel camera laying around the house! with video capabilities! Too bad it takes like 3megapixel pics... much better than my phone tho! and flash.

I missed the video on this until now, since it wasn't embedded I guess. Great conversion--that destroyer is tiny and just goes to show how small one can go with micro RC.

Thanks I still have it in taters after falling so many time from being on display and someone picking it up and the magnets giving way... But I got one cooking now that I ve gotten a 3d printer. A micro not necessarily a war ship but ill sneak ya a peak. I feel like there should be WAY more activity in the micro boats now that 3d printers can make the hauls.

You have your own 3D printer?

I think with that you might be able to give the forum new life--show what can be done and set the trend so to speak.

I wish it was more plug and play but yes I do have a finicky 3d printer . I got some upgrades coming to it soon. The boat is an imported Americas cup class 40 model that I had to learn how to fix in order to get the hull right, Top is gonna be flat for now. As you can see print 1 did not work so well and even on print two I had to cut off the rudders from the model, I used the keel from model 1 for the rudder in model 2. as you can see the inside was hollow but not pretty had to clean up with dremal.
