Question
Help me choose a plane

I'm currently in the middle of building out a Radian Pro for my first FPV plane, but I'm also starting a list for my next project. I'm fairly new to the entire hobby, so I'd like to get some input for my next plane (I can fly, I just don't know enough to choose a good platform for this). I'm not really concerned with RC or FPV equipment, just the plane. This is NOT going to be a long range platform. It will stay within a radius less than 1km. I was planning to use another electric powered glider, but I'm open to anything that will work.

Requirements:
1. At least 1 hour flight time
a. must maintain altitude in a circular orbit for the entire hour (not climb, glide, climb, etc.)
3. Carry 2 pound payload
a. this includes FPV gear, but is in addition to whatever battery/fuel it needs for the hour flight
b. may include a DSLR camera in the future (kinda big)
4. Transportable in a full-size SUV

5. Ability to be controlled by an autopilot in the future (I doubt this really effects the choice)

Resources:
1. No more than $3000.00
a. this is for the plane, with everything ready to fly minus a Tx and Rx (FPV gear not included either)
b. I realize this is a lot of cash for a plane, but I'm looking for something durable, stable and will carry the weight for the amount of time needed.
My LHS suggested I go with a 1/4 scale piper cub powered with a 2-cycle engine. At first I was hesitant, but I kind of like the idea. What appeals to me is the amount of space available on-board and the mounting options this creates for equipment. What turns me off is the gas engine (noise/maintenance).

What do you suggest???

What setup would it take to keep the skywalker up for over 1 hour with an extra 2 pounds of FPV and camera equipment?

When you say it can do that, do you mean maybe hit an hour, or easily exceed that?

What esc/motor/prop combo would I need?

You can get up to 60m with that battery. This is what you need:

1 - The plane=> http://www.bevrc.com/skywalker-168cm...ffer-p-17.html

2 - The ESC=> http://www.bevrc.com/ax-45a-brushless-esc-p-208.html

3 - The motor=> http://www.bevrc.com/ax2814-special-...ker-p-207.html

3 - The servos=> 2 of these http://www.bevrc.com/beves08ma-p-203.html + 2 of these http://www.bevrc.com/beves08a-p-202.html

4S 5000amp and up you go.

Vaz.

Yes, SkyWalker is very good,
but it's very fast, too, and for DSLR cam people
used planes from mwcores.com (Solution and others...).

Actually, I modified SW - replaced the wing, reinforced it, added ailerons and now it is very slowflying and very relayble plane for aerialPhoto.

Check, please, my post #11, here:

My Mulitplex Cularis I FPV'd 55min,
I was 5 mins away from breaking the 1hr mark
record and I tipStalled it and crashed lightly :-(
(all fixed now though :-)

I know I can get an hour out of the Radian, as it can climb and glide for a while and then climb some more if needed. But, there's no way the Radian can carry the weight I need for this project. And I need to hold a particular altitude for the entire hour.

The SkyWalker does seem like a good candidate, but after reading a large amount of the SkyWalker thread, I'm hesitant about expecting an hour out of it with a large payload and not gliding around a little to conserve power.

I get 50 minute flights on a 4s 5000 w/ 3s 1000 vid. on my SkyWalker with the purpose built SkyWalker motor from LowPriceRC. I'm sure I could break an hour at cruise amps, but the winter weather is so cold I haven't been able to last. Amp draw is extremely low on 4s with this setup @ 1.7kg AUW. I couldn't be more impressed with this setup personally.
