Most packaging plastics are not suitable for formed windshields.
The reason RC 56 glue works well is it has a solvent in it (probably the reason it can't be shipped to Canada). I use contact cement for my windshields cause it holds better than RC 56. I mask off the area to be glued and paint the adhesive on the plane and windshield, wait about 10 minutes and stick them together. It requires a near perfect fit and some planning cause you get one shot at putting it together.

I have been having trouble finding suitable clear plastic except from packaging which is probably PET-G. Here are some techniques that I use for installing windshields on high winger scale models:
Make a pattern from manila folder and carfully cut it to fit with some overlap at top of fuselage. Use pattern to scratch shape onto plastic with an awl, etc.
Pre-make pin holes by forcing pins through plastic in to scrap balsa for pins that will go into the fuselage top. Do the same for windshield sides.
Apply RC-56 or other similar "canopy glue" to top of fuselage where top of windshield will be glued. Canopy glue is water based and turns clear when cured. It can also be removed from plastic with damp Q-tip when fresh.
Force pins through plastic into fuselage top using needle nose pliers gripping pin near the point.
Apply glue to one side pillar and wrap plastic around and secure with pins making sure that bottom of windshield is down to boot cowl. Repeat for other side.
Run a bead of glue around bottom edge of windshield.
Let glue dry until white glue turns crystal clear. Carefully reomove pins while twisting and supporting windshield so they don't pull up windshield material. Trim excess material from fuselage top edge.
Add a strip of colored tape around bottom of windshield to cover any small gaps, etc.
Nothing like a neat new windshield installation
