Mini-Review
Sky Walker 8983 (nqx clone)

Hi, this is the review of the sky walker 8983.

OVERVIEW
Obviously this is a nano qx clone which uses the same 615mm coreless motors and 150mah battery. Things that are different from the nqx are the blades which have the exact same shape and pitch as the hubsans x4 but with 0.8mm opening to fit the smaller motors and the board configuration which isnt' the same so you cant just slap on a nqx board on the frame without tinkering. Charging the lipo takes around 1 hour while fight time is about 5 minutes(I fly very aggressive so you probably get more time just hovering or doing precision flying) then lvc turns on and you have about 30 seconds to land. Thankfully it doesn't just share the looks of the nqx which I was afraid of.

WHAT'S IN THE BOX
Quadcopter
Tx with joysticks or thumbpad
Charger
4 spare blades
Tool for blade removal
1 battery

FLYING CHARACTERISTICS
I was very pleasently surprised with this one, even with the stock transmitter it is very smooth and precise, with some of the craziest pitch and roll I have seen on a toy quadcopter. There are 3 flight modes accessible by pressing the right joystick, even in beginner mode its' fast while on expert mode this thing becomes wild. Holding the right shoulder button and banging the right stick will make the flips. I ran about 10 packs with multiple crashes and everything works like new so its very crash resistant thanks to its lightweight and the flexible material being used. Now the part I like the most, its deviation compatible under the yd717-skywalker protocol. Although the stock tx is rather good, using my favorite radio adds even more precision so thats a big plus!

PROS
Very stable(spot on hover)
Very precise
Lots of pitch and roll
Crash resistant
Deviation compatible

CONS
Led light not very visible(time your flights)
Reversed battery connector(you will have to tinker to use aftermarket batteries)
No spares yet
Yaw could be faster

CONCLUSION
For a fraction of the cost of a nqx I think this is a real good choice, as you will see in the video its super smooth and a blast to fly. The only minor drawback I found is that the rx led light is hard to see and the connectors are reversed compared to most other toy quads but that is easily fixable.

This review was made possible by gearbest.com, I would like to thank them for this. You can find it here ; http://www.gearbest.com/rc-quadcopters/pp_106004.html for 25$.

I was torn between this one and the Eachine CG023, they looks almost the same but can you post a video link?

Thanks

Edmond

Yes it is, but it is even better with my devo 7e. I will make a video flying with it to see the difference.

Nice flyer. Can it fit with a normal 240 to 300 mah battery?

Would love to see a comparison of this one to both the CG023 and the Bayang Toys X9.

I've posted my thoughts in this thread: http://www.rcgroups.com/forums/showthread.php?t=2291893

Since this thread is marked as a "Mini-Review", I didn't think it would be appropriate to make my own review, etc, comments here.

Feel free to do so theimacman. With the bad weather I havnt' even got a chance to fly it outside, would love to see how that goes. I am getting some motors from benedikt to replace the stocks, so that should be interesting.

Little update. Blew out a motor so no more flying this one until a replacement gets here, I really wanted to show what this little bird can do with with a hobby grade radio. I am also waiting on some HD camera glasses which will make my filming easier.

Just checking. Have you actually managed to bind the bird with your 7E through nRF24L01? You said you were going to post a video of that so I am not sure if the lack of the video is because of the blown motor or lack of success in binding with 7E

The reason I am asking is that I already have an Eachine CG023 which is a great bird let down by a rather poor transmitter and there is no way to use it with 7E as it uses some weird protocol.

This looks like a perfect NQX clone to me if it can bind with 7E.

Cheers,
