Eflite YAK54

I really don't know much about planes, but I just ordered the yak54. I also ordered a AS3x or what ever that gyro is called to put in it. Where would I look for a thread to read about these items. I didn't know if it is a foamy or sport or what.

Isn't that the way you do it? Buy something and then go see what you can learn about it before it gets there.

LOL Yep, that's the way to do it. It should glide for miles too. Don't forget to order your AA Batteries.

I got an Apprentice first and loved it, so I thought I'd buy another Eflite.
I looked at the Splendor also, but liked the way this one looks.

Barnstorm,

The Yak54 is a 3-D plane. You will find info in the 3-D section. IF this is your second plane, turn down the throws until you get use to the plane.

Yeah, thanks pdansalvish, I was probably going to turn down D/R TOO much and turn expo up TOO high but I got this spektrum AR635 6-channel AS3X sport receiver. You think that should help?

This is the Carbon Z Yak? If so, and the Apprentice is the only other plane you've had, you may want to put that up until you get more of an intermediate sport plane and get good with it. The suggested low rates/expo are fairly tame, but it is a big jump in difficulty to fly from the Apprentice.

If you do fly it, get it up high and learn when and how it stalls before you attempt a landing approach.

yak is more of a sport plane than 3d. its heavier so with that in mind it flies more like a real plane. i would suggest a Visionaire if ur wanting the larger throws..otherwise a PZ t-28 is the perfect step up from the apprentice

just my thought

went thru this transition when I restarted about 2 years ago. Telemaster trainer (high wing/large electric/3S) to electri stick (high wing, no dihedral, 3S) to the Yak 54. It is a GREAT flier--and will groove -- and with 4S it can do 3D stuff reasonably well . In any event, take a look at the landing gear mounts and do whatever you can to beef up that section. CF/tri stock, etc. because you will abuse it inevitably.

RE: yak54

I agree with the other post where they said that the yak 54 is a 3d plane from your trainer.
I also would say that you should fly your trainer more because the power and flying ability of the yak is totally different.
I don't mean to discourage you from flying the yak, but I don't want you to crash it right away.it is a great plane to fly, but if you can't handle it you will crash it
The yak moves faster, turns quicker
