Video - 4m DG500 maiden

Here's "Tessie" - 4m span Multiplex DG500 - maiden flight over my local slope.

DG500 (5 min 3 sec)

She's a "project" which started with an idea to have something "less skinny" than the broomstick-with-wings F3F ships. I got the fus first, and toyed with the idea of using 3m F3F wings on it - sort of Stingray-ish proportions. Then an original 1980s 4m Alpina came up for sale - and since the MPX DG500 originally flew with Alpina wings - it had to be done! So now I've got "Tina" the Alpina & her bigger sister "Tessie" - weighing in at 4.6kg, and definitely not skinny!

Wow man. What a great video. Your smooth presentation really matched the music, scenery and flight envelope spot on.
Right on!

PS...bummer re: the slippy grass 2nd take!

Nice one! Good to see it in the air Shame about the overun into the barrier though - no damage I hope?

She looks great in the sky!

But, how could you fluff the landing?
Best slope landing strip I have ever seen!
Hope she's OK

Nice

Thanks for posting,
Surprised at how much that hill generates in lift it does not seem very steep , but the air in the landing area looks nice and smooth, you are lucky to have such a nice place to fly.
Here in Africa our landing zones are rugged.
Cheers

Very nice maiden Phil! I love how smoothly the larger planes fly at the hands of someone with skill- just cruising around the sky almost effortlessly! Here's to many years of great flying on her!

Thanks for the comments guys - appreciated

I actually dont know if there was any damage to the wing - I was too busy laughing as the wing waved back & forth
was the 3rd flight so I just packed it up & headed home with a big smile on my face

Is this why it's recommended to install those "crush blocks" between the leading edges, inside the fuse?

Gosh Phil...I really enjoyed that. Watched it twice. There is just something about these big birds that really appeals to the aesthetic value of flying. The music was perfect...loved the bass lines. If there was a vote for one of the most beautiful flying spots, I would have to vote for your site. It is so quintessential "England." Great skill, great music, great energy.
