As others have mentioned already, that was a common combat engine setup or for free flight too. They used a bladder tank to provide pressurized fuel to the engine. There wasn't a venturi in the intake anymore, They drilled or bored it out all the way. Thus the engine cannot draw fuel anymore on its own. So you needed a fuel pressure feed for the engine. Most people used a bladder. But one could use crankcase pressure as well.
