recommended Video card ?

Hi guys, looking for some help in choosing a video card for Real Flight 6.5. Iíve read the spec sheet, But Iíd like to hear what do you guys have to say about which ones you like and which ones give you a good over all performance with out dropping a hundred and fifty bucks. Iím not a gamer, just want to fly my sim with decent graphics! Thanks. Jim

You might ask the kid that works at your favorite big box computer store. You're going to have to tell him that you're a gamer. Bring the specs with you. He'll work with your budget.

This can probably help you figure out which card to get.

Real flights spec sheet isn't very informative.

Are you building a new computer or upgrading an older one?

I have two computers, one is a laptop with Intel core i3 M350 @2.27 GHz
4.00 Ram with 3.80 usable GB. 64 bit OS.
The other is a desktop with Intel Pentium CPU G260 GHz
4.0 Ram and 64 bit. So not being as computer literate as I should be, could I get by with just a graphics card? or would I also need more speed?
Thanks. Jim

A good graphics card should give you a worthwhile improvement.

There you go! It seems like whenever I'm considering a new processor, they no longer make that style, meaning a new motherboard, new memory...

I use a ASUS Radeon 6700 in my PC.
It was built as a entry level Gaming System and does everything I ask of it.
At the time I got it from NewEgg.com their was a rebate available.

You can't change graphics cards on laptops, but you should be fine with the desktop processor(I'm assuming you meant a Pentium G620 2.6ghz) . Video games/Flight simulators are rarely bottlenecked by the processor.

As for video cards there is this one from newegg http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814102988

I assume that your desktop is most likely using onboard graphics. The only concerns are the added power draw of the card. If you have a 300-350W psu it should be fine. Also you should ensure that your motherboard has a PCI-Express x16 slot.

@jeffpn you can always try overclocking, if your bios supports it, to drag a little extra performance out of it.

My current system is fine. I'm not really a fan of overclocking, really.

Hopefully your manual will tell you what kind of slots are on the motherboard. What's the model number?

If you open the computer case the rating of the psu( Power Supply Unit) should be on a sticker on the side of the psu.

As for the pci-e x16 (pci express x16) slot I borrowed this image from another website. The colors of the slot can vary from motherboard to motherboard, but the slot will always have a tab on it to lock the video card in place. If you can't tell just post a picture of your motherboard on here and we should be able to figure it out.
