Can someone tell me for an X4 multirotor, only 4 ESCs used or still 8?
Counter coaxial more thrust or same rotation more thrust?

I believe in the x8 with a coax config still 8 with a control signal split but rotational reversal for each leg.

No idea on the thrust thou...

There are only 4 arms now, if split, why need 8? They should be in sync so one single esc split signal shld be the way. Then, all the redundancy is gone..

Ha.. well it should be able to take the wind.. but the story at the end of the day is, we lost it to the wind..

Environmental issues.
The rig is new, everything is great including thnow!rcon, super cold in the room. We have to defog every equipment we brought out.. even plastic item have a layer of dew..

Morning mission was good even in light drizzle..
Evening mission while trying to catch the sunset, we flew out NW but encounter sudden headwind.. to the point you see it tilt but it seem stationary! That's scary..

After some 100m away, one prop flew out.. I guess there was a motor slip. We didn't check the prop tightening..

So it auto stab and tries to land.. we controlled it manually and brought it back. Then the wind changed, blowing headwind NW.

The Skyjib struggled and going everywhere.. we brought it down to lower height so that the wind sheer is not strong.. didn't help much.. couldn't bring back due to the wind again..

Told pilot to switch auto-home and that was it.. the fight is over.. it did a yaw and tilt, more than 45deg and cut power.. down it goes.. not even a chance to activate chute..

3 days later sent a camera down to scout.. but no sight of the copter anymore.. drift to lala land.. 23m deep.. it was the last day of ghost month!

RIP Skyjib One! You have serve us well.. proud to have work with you..

Carboncore, move in now!

Sorry to hear about Skyjib One... But what an adventure!!! Something to tell the grand kids for sure. And the best excuse to get some new stuff.

Yes, the signal to the esc may be split (i.e. 4 signals to 8 escs that power one motor each) but I'm not sure if it is possible to parallel the output of an esc to two motors.

IMO since the esc does the phase switching of the power between the stator coil sets in a motor and no two motors are 100% identical I'd expect it to run a little rough or suffer from some harmonic vibes or inconsistent speed.

But if you've got the time and resources, hey I'd appreciate if you can prove me wrong

Yea the excuse to go shopping is addictive! In one day, we hunted probably the last CC Octo from UK as they ceased production and awaiting the new Cortex, plus for insurance, we got another CC Hexa from US. I think DHL being more efficient will bring the Hexa to us by tomorrow.

Last check, its here already with DHL sorting..

See how after next week, if have time will run test on coaxial..
