You might want to reconsider that statement.

There USED to be a 60 ft. statue of Jesus in front of a mega-church about halfway between Dayton and Cincinnati. It had a steel girder skeleton, covered with urethane foam and a fiberglass outer shell.

One stormy night not too long ago, the steel frame in the right hand acted as a lightning rod, and the lightning strike ignited the fiberglass. Within minutes the whole statue burned completely down to the bare steel frame:

Years ago, across the street from our LHS, someone rented the old fire station that was on the edge of the Dayton International Airport. He used it for final assembly and checkout of a LongEze. It was January, and they had a kerosene heater running in one end of the shop area, while in the other end they were sloshing out the all-fiberglass plane's fuel tanks with avgas. The fumes, being heavier than air, drifted down to the floor and across the shop to the heater, where they ignited. The damage to the building was not too bad (mostly smoke damage), but the airplane was a cremated pile of ashes and burnt glass cloth on the floor, a total loss.

Most fiberglass burns extremely well!

I don't disagree, Don. I mis-worded. I was just picturing the varnished wood being more flammable, because of the glass leftovers when you burn both. Still, that resin can go up, fast.

Don,

That looks like a small portion of a huge complex that I saw in an email link I received several years ago. I believe it was in Germany. It included acres of RR, cities with traffic, airports, etc. scenes from around the world. It was HUGE, equally complex & very expensive. I'll see if I can find the links.

Boy i thought i was sick with some of my projects, they better gut those people to the Mayo Clinic real fast as they have it really bad.

What a set up, like a super RR layout but with wings added.

Can anybody indentify the glider with the spats and fixed gear legs in this Youtube video at 1:40? It could be an interesting scale model.

I dunno what that glider is, but do know it's Monday!
Maybe Fiat is secretly figuring out a fuel source!
So I have a few 'canard foils to choose from now- went nice and thin- gotta check the dihedral capabilities now!

I've got no idea what the heck it is TJ. It would make for an interesting scale model. Give it a good airfoil and I bet it would soar well. I love the long 2-3 hour flights!

If you do happen to find some specs for it let me know. It's giving me ideas and we all know how dangerous that can be!

It was a slow day at work yesterday so I was watching a lot of Youtube videos to pass the time. I've been an aviation enthusiast for 40+ years and recognise many of the U.S. made aircraft, but the foreign stuff, unless it's a famous war bird, is a different story. I wouldn't even know where to begin with trying to identify that thing, except to ask on forums like this in the hopes that someone might know something about it.

Ok, That is Wicked cool! That fuse detail is awsome.
I am going to be forced to learn fiberglassing this winter if I get out of my burnt out slump and get into the shop and build something.
