There is an article about building a model of the Pitcairn PA33 in the August 1935 issue of Model Airplane News.

Well, I have the magazine, which has the full size plan in it. Would I violate some copyright if I took a picture and posted it?

Okay, spoke with her moments ago. She says no. They have a number of people trying to do just this, thereby taking income away from her. Some are even being persued through the legal system.

Very nice lady to talk to, and seeing as Model Builder was probably the finest model airplane magazine to be published, I would recommend giving her a call and ordering them. These dear folks poured their life into publishing these materials, should be worth a bit.

MArch 2013 issue of 'R/C Model Aeroplane' - which is the US market name for 'RC Models & Electronics", the original and longest running RC mag from England. Contains an article and free pull-out plan for Richard Harris's 'Panther' single rotor autogyro.

There's a fair amount of building instruction in the accompanying article, though there's going to be another article in the April edition covering more. There's also a build thread on the publisher's website RC forum.

Motor described for the electric powered prototype is a 750 - 1000KV motor, 3S or 4S LiPo around 3000mA and a 60A ESC. There's more on motor choices plus slimey conversions, on the publisher's forum. The only 'specialist' parts are that the prototype used an AstroFlight gearbox as a rotor head and the GF plate to make the rotor head mount and some other parts up there.

Controls are pitch and roll via the rotor, yaw from the rudder. Structure is, depending on how you like building, real easy to AAARRRGGGHHH! - I reckon it's a doddle to build. The rotors are made from a hardwood front 1/4" x 3/4" and 1/4" x 2" balsa rear - then a load of 'sanding and carving to shape'

Looking into the model further, the designer has a lot of time with autogyros and has designed most of his himself. Getting the magazine in the US could be fun - I picked mine up from one of few 'Barnes and Noble' bookshops, some 20 miles north of homeplate for me. Probably a lot easier in England

The publisher's website is:
www.modelflying.co.uk

I don't usually build from other folks' plans (tend to end up muttering things like (why did the silly fellow do it like that ) but having put off buying that HobbyKing foamy despite a long time urge for another autogyro - the last one I had was circa 1982 - this puppy could end up getting on my build schedule.

Have fun, hope that helps

D
