Ya know this thread is over 2 years old, but thanks.
Some pilots are distracted by folks calling out the speeds on the gun. I like
constant feedback so I can try something different or ease off when the conditions
just aren't giving it up, which is why I'm often asking how fast it's going.
I think I've kinda hit the limit with this plane though. My new PB this year is only 352mph, but
at least I got it in Colorado to up the state record.

Another thing is, no matter what line gives you the highest perceived speed, it doesn't do
you any good if it's not pointed close to straight at someone's radar gun at some point in the
circuit. There are times when I *know* it is ripping, but I hear the radar speeds are low
and must adjust the angle of the circuit to get it pointed at the gun. It's rarely the most
comfortable line, and often not the absolute fastest, but yields the best radar speeds. I've
seen conditions at Weldon where the high line (entirely above the horizon) was very fast, but
can't use it. I've seen Spencer, among others, dig *waaaaaaay* down the back and
bounce off the rotor 3/4 down the hill for some huge speed, but the radar gun can't
see that far and by the time it's close enough to read, it's off angle again. When I'm radaring for
others who want to hear speeds for every pass, I'll tell em when I know it's off angle..
