Should the ailerons move up w/up elevator or down?

My F-22 has them going opposite ways but a video of the F-35 has them going the same way. Which is right?

I would think the up aileron w/up elevator would be counterproductive but...?

Pitch up with tailerons, flapperons go down for more lift. Pitch down with stabilator, flapperons up.
The video shows it that way because of the setup. But if you separate the ailerons to flapperons from the stabilator or especially as a taileron they would work at opposite angles to produce greater lift in the desired direction.

Where they need to work together moving in the same angle, is in a stalled wing attitude. When the wings AoA is extreme near stall and more or less flying on the engine... especially with a single engine, you have less or no roll control because the ailerons any further forward would then be fully stalled and ineffective. To keep them working at that slow speed stalled, many fighter aircraft flip the aileron to a spoiler config to maintain control to capture the turbulent force washing over the wing tips.

I am in the process of build this model and have a related above question.

Keeping the flying weight close or at stock weight, what are the advantages to running a 4s set up? Or a 6s set up?

I would like to fly this off either 1 x 4s OR a 2 x 3s packs (I will start with 2200s and go from there.)

Could any of you that are running either a 4s or 6s set up please comment with what fan motor and size ESC you use with success please? Perhaps comment with why you chose that set up?


My goals are ~5 min flight times, near stock weight with much more thrust that stock. ( I plan to make a intake duct and will document it when I get that far.

get a DPS ally 68mm edf unit from hobbyking run it at 4s with much more poiwer than stock.. 60 amp esc will be fine
witha 3300mah pack you will have your flying time easy.. not to mention the whooshy sound

You may want to look into the new SU-35 purple 2200kv 6S motor Freewing just released for the SU-35 twin 70mm. That model is 2.7-3kg and with the same FW fan, and some are already saying they are getting 1:1 TWR; only its a twin counter rotating. They are doing well.... very well with a low amp draw. So they got the right motor for the fan. If you AUW is 1.5kg it may be worth looking over.

Does anyone recall what the stock AUW was?

Not sure you will achieve your goal with a 6s as that will add more weight.

Stock 5s 2200 battery was reported to weigh in at 306g?

My 3s 2200 packs are 147g each. Should be rather close I am hoping!

1.3 kilos AUW. The wing load would increase but the design floats as it is. He'll gain weight reinforcing the wings but can drop weight with a more current 100g 6S outrunner. He's in the ball park as ling as he's not adding any extras.

Well between my battery and just my motor I am just below 800 grams. I don't think the rest of the plane should come out to 500 grams. I got to get around to weighing it.

Mine should be here tomorrow or Monday. I plan to weigh each component as well as total weight so I can tune and stay very near the 1.3kg with changes I have planned.

Does anyone have pics of the new BH F-35 in the 'Thunderbird' scheme?

Ken, here is mine. Haven't flown it yet. I plan on using 5s 4000 packs....its a tight fit. And just so you know, the tail cone and cockpit come all white, I just painted mine.
