Are there many, to ask about the best ?
I know only the fmkit beacon...
Some OSD may have related features that might help to find a lost plane, though...

If you know the location of your plane to within 400ft, this might help...

No booster needed, just a better antenna. If you can find the frequency, you can build a yagi, or patch antenna and double the range. Just fix a small length of coaxial cable where the current antenna is. You can also build a horn andtenna and quadruple the range. You just need to know the general direction your plane went down (or just spin around pressing the button).

I use the Fmkit UHF beacon and that's awesome. Very simple to setup and use, and it will transmit for days. Using the 'body blocking technique' I was able to get within 30 feet of the beacon (that's the beacon alone with no plane). If it was in a plane, that would have been an easy find.

The UHF beacon is overpriced IMO. That little thing is probably $5 to make.

A GWS "Be Found" is great if you know the general area where you went down.
Light, cheap, simple and reasonably loud.

i think this on would be the best http://www.rcgroups.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1317442 because it has great range, does not need gsm network and it gives you the exact coordinates where your plane is located. Downside is that it looks very heavy.
