Ignoring all the excellent input on brushless motor esc location and wiring just for a moment... (thanks all)

tonight for a short time i moved the Sunderland into my newly restored Lounge that was wiped out by the boiler explosion just before Christmas as i needed some space in the dining room..

and it really caught my eye as i walked back in there.. the start of the forward sheeting has really defined the shape of things to come.. had to take a photo to share..

i think this photo shows just how different the overall shape is to that of the Solent

got Saturday, Sunday, and Monday to work on it... woo hoo!

should have the woodwork completed?

Granted it's not every day you see a Sunderland slouched on a settee!..

Just read up on some of the military history of the Sunderlands in anti-submarine duties. There must be some interesting British movies about Sunderlands and crews slugging it out with U boats and fighter planes. Also watched some videos about the huge Princess flying boats intended for troop carriers and how they wound up as scrap for lack of buyers at the end of WWII, much like the Spruce Goose.

just in case you thought I had gone to sleep again....

I haven't

its been one of those "two steps backwards to go one step forwards" sort of weekends, have put a massive amount of hours in so far this weekend still got a Monday off work to add to the score

the fuselage and its covers are now fully sheeted....

have got the worst of the twist/kink out of the fuselage in the process

have got 18 days left to get it ready for the show!

Great work David, Welcome back. I have done 2 different pressure to finish for show deals in the last 2 years. I know it is tough. Do the best you can. People will enjoy seeing your work no matter what stage it is in. You will feel great when it is all over. Good luck,

Very nice David. If it is a static show, you could argue that it is a more interesting exhibit if shown in the uncovered state

yes Trevor

the build is now at a stage where its almost a crime to cover all that woodwork with glass cloth and film...

but! the woodwork is almost done..

and i have two more weekends to go before the show (which is static)

despite looking nearly finished there is still a lot to do!

David

the orange sticky tape is "poly tape" it prevents mating parts sticking together when not required to do so

and

the sheeting on the fin and tail plane is the very lightest 1/32" balsa and adds a tremendous amount of strength for very little weight

That looks wonderful - and of course it would be much more interesting for a visitor to this exhibition to see at least some of the model in the uncovered state. Perhaps if you run out of time, just cover half of it? Like one of those cleverly sectioned model engines I remember from my youth.

sunday evening update...

the balsa bashing is complete... the construction of the airframe upto the point where i start with the iron on covering..

the underside of the hull and the tip floats are now glass clothed, sanded, and in white primer

all the mountings and bracing wires are completed on the tip floats

the wing tips require a final sanding and thats it!

i even had time to junk the existing motor wiring and install (but not connect) the new

still a good way off finished but almost ready for covering!
