RocHobby Critical Mass on Floats

Thought I'd take my FMS Critical Mass and stick some floats on her. I was going for the Macchi M67

or Supermarine S6B look.

Bought some EPO foam floats from my LHS and adjusted them to the proper length.
I thought the wing area on the C/Mass was a bit small for the weight of the floats. So I added about 2 1/2" to each wing tip and lengthen the wing foil about 1" up front.

Did some initial flight trials. Found her very tail heavy. Will do some weight distribution and report back.

When I first made the floats to the proper length, I had the steps 1/4"- 3/8" behind the C/G of the OEM wing.
Then I decided to make the wing area bigger. I didn't change the float steps, thought I would get her flying and figure that out later.
Wasn't real happy adding so much lead to the front of the floats, this was the only way to get her to fly properly. Later that night I had a epiphany (a smart-sounding word for realizing you've been practically retarded for quite some time.)
I decided to move the contact points of the floats back, which in turn moved the steps forward closer to the new C/G. The whole float now sat about 3/4" forward from where I had them in the beginning . Now it took less lead up front to balance her. (always a good thing)
Went for another test flight..
Ya!!! Fly's like it's on rails. Just have to wait till spring to try her off of water.

Short vid from today.

I plan on it... but really not needed or desired off of snow. I'll make some up and post more when I finish off everything. I have more bracing and not sure I'm satisfied with how I have the the floats mounted to the struts. They bend easily.

That is awesome! Great work. Like a modern version of the Macchi M67.
