"Optima electro" 2.5M thermal sailplane ?

this is a long shot, but is someone familiar with a model called "Optima electro" by WMP ?
they also make an "optima 100" & "optima pro" versions (non powered).
can be seen at - http://www.braeckman.de/diverse.htm

I'm considering buying the electro version and would appreciate your opinions.

thanks, Oded.

I am not sure this will help, but have a look at the following site:

http://ovid.medicon.cz/lomcovak/elektro/opt_1.html

It's all in Czech but has a lot of immages. There is an e-mail address for Vojtech. I think he has quite some experience with the Optima or at least he knows people who know...

The Optima 100, Electro and Pro are high quality balsa, ply and film covered ARF's with fiberglass nose cones. I've got an Electro, but haven't assembled or flown it yet. I've flown a friend's Pro version from a winch launch, and was pleased with the performance. There were positive reviews of the Pro version in RCM and S&E Modeler in the last year or so.

The Electro is not the same as the Mega Optima in Radek's link.

Radek, thanks for your help (in Deja as well). unfortunately, this Optima is not the one I am after.

Jim, the version I intend to buy is the "electro pro" (include ailerons + spoiler). your reply was another step into buying it. how do you plan to power it ?

thanks, Oded.

I have three planes from WMP --

Optima Pro - 100 inch full house sailplane
Primera Cloud hopper -- 2 meter electric sailplane
Alpha Compact -- 1.5 meter sailplane

I've flown them all and I like 'em!

I haven't decided on a power system yet, that's why it's still in the box. Actually, I only bought it because I couldn't pass up the sale price. It has to wait its turn behind a number of other unbuilt/unassembled kits.

Does anyone know where to buy WMP planes in the US

I have a WMP Alpha Compact that I have flown for the last year. I have been very impressed with the build quality and performance of the plane. I have been looking for a 100" electric sailplane and I was considering the Optima Electic, but couldn't find a dealer. Does anyone know of a US source for the WMP planes?

Jeff-

Pegasus Hobbies had a few of the WMP kits (including Electro) a few months ago. They may still be in stock.

Hobby People stopped carrying the WMP line, but still stocks some parts.

I am not familiar with a US source, only European...

thanks Jim, good luck with your other projects.

Wow, I owned the plane over 10 years ago and sold it about 8 years ago.

Sorry, but I do not have the manual any longer.

These are good quality, although heavy, sailplane.

Good luck

It was worth a try. Not many Optima Electros ended up in the States so info on it is pretty scarce. I can figure out how to put it together but need the darn CG location. One guy said 33% and another guy said 41%. I'm confused. Thanks anyway. Tom

Tom, the manual specs 30% of the chord (70 mm from the LE) as the optimal c.g. The rest of the instructions are pretty basic and straight forward. If you'd like a scan copy, pm me your email address.
