Have now drain 6 batteries worth of flights and yes I also am surprise how this thing can still fly. Most defently needs a cf rod from end to end, most of the flex is coming at the servo/wing mount. This is the dt foam(very flexable). And yes to the 1/8 holes, I did not pay attention and put the cheap bamboo rod closer to the center, my mistake. I did laminate the wings with packing tape, so that is probly what is saving them from colapsing. When I get to putting your kit together I will correct those mistakes. Learn as I go.

Packing tape is wonder stuff on Foamys.

I'd use the CF that is a Blade not a rod or tube.
Vertically aligned in the wings they are like and "I" beam.
6mm depth would still "hide" well. Thickness will depend on your level of paranoia
and budget. Seems like thicker is more expensive.
But HK has some 750 mm long stuff that is economical.

Keep up the good work and take pix as you go.

Possibly you could also insert some in the Bottom fuse plate to firm up the servo
from getting twisted as well.

I keep a stock of 6mm flat CF stick just for things like this. The good thing about flat is that it will conform to a curve unlike rod or tube. I also use it on the bottom of foam for a skid and to protect the foam.

Good point Pat ! .

I used that idea on my Harpy with a long curved spar from tip to tip !

I too have several stacks of the stuff for builds myself.

Now that my shop is finally done and ready to use I have accumulated about
two yrs of things that I have been wanting to do .

Must prioritize that list !

Yeah, I went with a curved wing spar on my latest Berkut mod that is going to get the 6mm flat spar. I still need to get that put together. The other versions flew very well, this one has a few improvements in the design.

Ok, here's the test flight http://youtu.be/kotkG0iEFXE, Ignore the head bob from the hat cam, transmitter battery was low and was checking it. Also ignore the date and time stamp, I'm too lazy to change it on the camera.

Well, after 15 plus flights, one of the servos decided to do the jitterbug. Had to cut out a small hole to take out the servo screw, use two screwdrivers to pry the wing up off the servo arm and pull out. Cut out a section in the nacelles, pull out the servo and repair a loose solder joint in it and shoved it all back together again. Minimum cosmetic damage. One advantage to two servos vs one. And decided to pull the other wing out and brace them up better, much stiffer now. Forgot to mention before, weight 12.6 oz , 15.3 with battery.

Great job on both the plane and the vid.

Hey Guys,

Here is mine! I chose not to do the prop in slot deal. Battery sits right at the forward part of the hatch.

I'm at 12.75 oz without a battery. I built it really light with basswood main wing spars and nothing else. Moving the motor rearward didn't' cost me anything in weight maybe the equivalent to two rudders. The pieces in the back are hollow underneath. I can share the DXF's for the parts I added if anyone needs them.
