Fully Functional Twin EDF F-14 from LX Model

I orignally posted this at Scale forum yesterday.

Janusz Jawien recommended EDF forum. Thanks Janusz!

What is your favorite airplane?

Many of us scale lovers want to have fully functional F-14.

What is your wish list for Fully Functional Tomcat? Maybe like this.

1) Twin Jet Ducted Fan
2) Retractable Landing Gear working same as full scale(90 degree twisting for main gear)
3) Swing Wing
4) Nose Gear steering for taxiing
5) Air Brake

One of Korean RC enthusiast endeavored to fly the world first fully functional F-14 on January 2004. The maiden flight ended in failure due to trust line misalignment.

He investigated the debris for finding the cause of losing control and rebuilt the plane and made successful flying on December 2005.

R/C JET F-14 TOMCAT (5 min 38 sec)

How many of us can afford to have those expensive jet just for hobby?

There are several design to make F-14 with affordable budget. You can find many scratch build semi scale Tomcats video at YouTube.

With the advancement of battery and brushless motor technology, we can easily make simplified profile electric version of Jet scale, even the swing wing F-14. Most of the simplied version has pusher prop and no gear.

But we still want to have fully functional Tomcat that can take off from runway, not from you hand catapult, retract the gear during flying, swept back wing like hawk when pursuing the prey, slow down speed with airbrake during approach, taxiing after landing. I don't like belly landing for the Jets.

LX model, the Korean RC company who is famous for delicately made scale WW I planes, developed fully functional Tomcat with twin electric fan.

This is the fixed gear version of prototype. The pilot is J.K. Kim.

Nice landing at the second flying.

F-14 LXMODEL 2008.6.23 (2 min 21 sec)

I was invited to join the maiden flight of production version that has retractable landing gear.

The first trial is made by J. K. Kim.

After landing, he turned the radio to me. And I got the control.

It is very stable and easy to control.

First 4 and last link do not work. Videos have been removed. Plane looks nice though and I would agree with you on all points. I want my cake and would like to eat it too.

Thanks for fixing those. I remember watching the first video some time ago. My heart sunk for that guy. Glad to see he got it all back together and a great flight. I noticed he never retracted his gear. Was it not functional at the time?

I see you have the rotating retracts as well in the photos. I know some guys who would pay good money for those alone.

I second an answer for darmar's comments.

Looks great. Just hope it's not another one of these planes that never seems to become available and the thread eventually just dies.

Just judging from the pictures I would say this is huge model, with maybe 5 feet of wingspan!
All in all great looking model.

How big is the model?

I don't have exact measurement data.

You can estimate the size from this picture

Prototype test for Swing Wing and Restractor

Developing new model airplane is one thing. Worldwide distribution is another.

On January this year, one of my RC friend sent me this video and told me the story.

It was very interesting.

This is 1st prototype for testing hand made moving part.

The project is just finished flight testing and packaging design. Ready for mass production next month.
