3-meter handlaunch?

We had marvelous weather conditions here in New England on Sunday, and I watched Mark Drela flying his 'Bubble Dancer'. This plane is a light 3-meter plane (31 oz, 120" span), built-up wing with carbon spars, basically a super-size version of his Allegro. -Twice- he specked this thing out off of a hand toss! He also strapped it onto the winch for a nice zoom launch. Almost unnecessary when a hand toss was so successful, but the full-pedal and zoom were more spectacular than the hand toss. A truly impressive plane.

Re: 3-meter handlaunch?

Thanks for the compliment, Tracy, but you missed some earlier morning action. I got four or five hand-launched climbouts with the glider that day.

Plans, info, and photos of this Bubble Dancer are at the Allegro-Lite yahoogroup.

Now, if they can reinforce the wings with some lateral carbon fiber, maybe the plane can be discus launched!

World's Biggest HLG, and it'll work on a winch

Figured I'd give this a shot for those who did not want to YAHOO!

Couldn't figure out picture insertion, but this'll get you one to whet your appetite. There's another half dozen details at yahoo.
