Agreed conditions looked perfect for the PMS, it wouldn't have been knocked around so much.

Man, how good is Gareth! Awesome flying mate!!!

The problem was it was just too changeable. One lap going deep was fine, the next it was suck-down city. As the day went on the variability increased as the wind went more off-angle.

Heavier planes could go further back and deeper and have energy to get out to buy themselves to time to react to suck-downs, lighter planes couldn't.

I think Jono made the right call in not flying the PMS in the end. Earlier in the day it would have been the right call, but as the day went on and the conditions worsened i think it was the right call.

The front-side is steep but not exactly straight...

Hey thanks Alex that comment made my day lol. Weighs pretty heavy coming from you especially.
First flight was really fustrating, Jonos light afp had just done over 180, we knew 200 was easily within reach. I couldnt get the deep line to
work, each time barely making it out.. the shear layer was a mess, pushing deep into the valley below. Instead of waiting on the front and diving back in when it looked better, I took Jonos advise and landed.

Later on in the day the sheer had been holding up pretty good so tried to time a flight in a good patch, but it wasnt much better than earlier.
Jono makes it look easy up at Ngaio, his afp70 is a serious weapon of a plank, cant wait to see what it will do at tekapo.

Jono 1 mph off, can't say how many times that's happened to me.

Get some footage of the landing zone next time too.

PMS would of been doing 250+ that day.

It was pretty rough and the sheer was very low. For me, deeper was smoother but it was getting dodgy going so low lap after lap. I should have flown the PMS earlier in the day but it was suppose to turn for the better during the day so I waited and by the time I had it together and ready it had just got too rough to risk. I NEED it for the Christchurch trip in January and do not have the time to make another before then.

The 1mph I needed to get a nice even 200mph was there but It was rough and I didn't want to push it. It would have been different if I hadn't had 200 at that site before but I was a way off the site record or a PB so I was not so bothered.

Gareth always makes flying the look easy, especially the tight circuits where he hooks it so well . I don't know how he does it but it is always well worth watching.
