Wow. That IS interesting! Thank you*

Why does it not vector downwards in flight? Is it because the feathers are pretty much curled straight? Facing the wind..?

I think that a good aerodynamic wing uses a positive tip twist or a winglet. The tip feathers are a mix..and might do better. Nature used millions of years to find out the best wing for birds...so why not copy that advantage?

Here is the ornithopter I modified to fly on DSM2 with porportional servos and speed control. It started out as a cheap $28 ebay flying bird and now I can fly it with my DX8 or DX6i. I currently have it on my DX8.

Why are you not using natural feathers? They are perfect.

Because real feathers need service. A bird uses a lot of time a day to clean, to oil, to powder and brush the feathers.

I'm just wondering if these look alike models will help me avoid being attacked by hawks.

That's not a hawk but a kite and they do not allow any flying thing around their nest (I mention a nest in the right corner 0:45). I have the same problem over here with local buzzards during breeding time. They get me crazy...very nice video through!

You are right that it is a Kite. They breed here in India like crazy from raiding the constant dump sites.

Funny, I thought I would be escaping the bird harassment when I move this summer. The funny part is I'm moving to The Hague and will have to deal with larger buzzards.

I'll get in touch with you after I arrive and will ask for more info on your look alike model.

BP Hobbies carries the Bald Eagle EPO model pre-painted but it's out of stock.

Would be curious to see the Dutch birds' expressions when they first see a bald eagle "Hey you're not from these parts are you?"
