I have worked for more than 25 years with technical product development. Prior to each product release I have had high hopes that all the major issues had been dealt with. Not a single time have I been right :-(

There are always unexpected serious problems detected the second you release a technical product to real customers. And HobbyKing doesn't exactly have a history of being QualityKing.

Nowadays I rarely buy stuff before the first major update is out.

Product ID 9171000070 has been found to have a manufacturing defect and we are replacing them automatically without need for the customer to contact Customer Service.
The manufacturing defect existed only in the first batch of products and recently sold units as well as units being shipped now and in the future do not have this fault.

I whole heartedly agree. I will wait till next year to get one for that fact.
Also HK umm customer service(I use ha term loosely) is not always the best. But hell you cant beat there pricing. Some things are utter crap but they have some gems.

I've got one...

executive summary:

- it only affected the first batch that was sent
- it's been fixed
- newly ordered units are not affected
- people that received a bad one are having a good one shipped automatically
- if you use er9x, you can work around the problem but can only use 6 channels

symptom:

- Ch. 2 is flaky
- seems to be related to frame timing

workaround 1, if you have er9x:

- tested against OrangeRX and Champ with built-in RX:

- on menu 1, set:
Proto PPM 8CH 200 mSec
PPM FrLen 20.0 mSec

- on mix menu, set
ch 1 100% THR
ch 2 -100% AIL (i.e. reversed)
ch 3 100% ELE
ch 4 100% RUD

workaround 2, only works with external Rx:

- avoid Ch 2, route whatever would normally be plugged into Ch 2 into Ch 5
- works if you have discrete Rx
- of course, doesn't work with any built-in Rx since you can't change the channel options

My complete notes are here:

aha. firmware bug. thanks for the info. having recently been given couple um im trying to decide between 3 options:

1. dust of the old spektrum radio
2. wait for 9xr when it comes out
3. pick up the orange module now for my 9x

that one last is looking good again.

Look up the module on the HK site. Read the customer comments and HK comments.

The hope is that it will work once the initial glitch is corrected. I have one on the way from that first batch, so will be waiting for the promised replacement.

Best advice right now: sit tight and see how it turns out.

Oh, look what I've found...

New products. The idea of running a script is that you don't have to check it yourself. Rather it should send you a notification (email, sms etc) when it finds something with '9XR' in it.
Really great idea! I've just setup a script to do just that!
