Looking at getting my first GWS plane
Hey all;
Couple of quick questions....I have flown some RC helo's and have an RTF three channel foamy, fairly proficient flying not an expert but I am in the air more than I am on ground now. I am looking at my first kit build and love the looks of the P-40 wondering if this kit is suitable for a first build saw some great prices at epyaya.... Any input is welcome. Ron |

It would be fine as a first build - it's not got any building challenges and the instructions are pretty clear. However, it is a low wing aileron bird and your "three channel foamy" could be a Beaver for all I know, in which case this is a bit of a step. However if you're happy with ailerons then go for it and good luck. We look forward to the first flight report
 I like your distinction about being in the air more than on the ground. When I was learning (even more than I still am) I saw it as progress except I had to distinguish between being in the air or in the ground

I'd go for the EPO P-40 coz if you do pile it in it will be easier to repair than an EPS P-40. Epyaya has them NPS.

get the e-starter. It was my first aileron plane from a three channel and it helped a lot in the transition. The p-40 might be a bit too much if you've never flown with ailerons.

I too like the E-starter. It can easily fly as a 3 channel or a 4 channel. Mine really helped me with the rudder on the left stick. It's probably one of the finest 4 channel trainers on the market.

Thanks for the tips my three channel is a cessna look alike rudder and elevator high wing.... I thought of trying to convert that for some aleron work. I liked the lines of the p-40 and thought that it would be something to carry me through the winter.
But the estarter? (I will look for it on e.....) to see how it fairs out..sounds like a place to start and I can fly that and still build any one have any other place beside epayaya that I would find the estarter?

E Starter, fly like a warbird with a bigger motor and at slow speed like a TM even with the bigger motor, very easy to fly

I'd go with the e-starter if you're coming from a high wing rudder/elevator monoplane. But, if you want to make life a little more exciting why not try out twin engines and ailerons at the same time? http://www.caliberhobby.com/airplane...ml#estarterkit
Go for the e-starter twin with 2 300H brushed motors - then you don't have to lay out big bucks on two brushless ESC, plus you'd get free shipping |

If you do get an E-starter, consider this motor: 2410-08Y with a GWS HD 9075 or GWS HD 1060. I bought mine here
http://cgi.ebay.com/2410-08Y-Outrunn...QQcmdZViewItem and it is still in use even after the E-starter is long gone. I ran 3S lipos in the E-starter and now run 2S lipos in an old battered GWS Beaver with a GWS EP9070. |
