Once again, Ken is da man even though he used a different name than the one I knew. I will accept both.

Any others?

Let me know if you need more clues.

Big thanks to Don for starting this thread! it is widely read by even folks who do not fly with us.

Don, you will have to spread the madness wherever you go, sharing the fun of foam flight and combat.

I think I hear the Unclub President thinking up a rhyme,

Was that a hint?

The boys are sad, at Stony Creek,
they don’t know what to say,
Because, it seems “Strong Motors” Don
has uped and moved away.

No more he’ll be the Combat King
as he often was before.
All good things must end sometime,
and now he’s shut that door.

Of course the flying will not stop,
it will go on and on,
It’s just that now they’ll do it,
missing their good mate, Don.

I read this poem
as a tear welled in my eye.
Please come back and fly.

It's not just missing friendship
that brings tears to the eyes.
With Don no longer coming,
who'll bring the guys' supplies?

Monitor battery :(

Hi

I received my FPV stuff from China today, but unfortunately, the monitor was DOA. On further investigation, I found that the built in 1s lipo battery is showing an unhealthy 0V.

I dug a little further and found that there is actually 2.8V if I measure direct on the cell instead of after the tiny little PCB that's on the battery.

Since I am using a proper LiPo charger, can I simply bypass the PCB and connect direct to the battery? I would charge it up very slowly the first time to see how it behaves.

On another note, I maidened Donna's SloGo (Tiggerooo) today and ran into an unexpected problem. I was using Donna's Champ TX and a 6ch featherlight receiver. I ran out of range and nosed in the plane after about 50 yards. We've certainly had the Champ much further away with no problems and I've been using LemonRX receivers in everything for about a year including specking out the TLAR to get good photos lots of times.

Anyway, I've installed a new LemonRX just in case and set the plane up to use my TX, so hopefully that'll work better. I also found the plane to be very sensitive to the control surfaces, so I have reduced the throws to less than half of what I had. The good news is that she climbed out nicely without turning either way, so I expect the remaiden to go much better.

The airframe itself survived the nosein without a scratch save for a broken propeller, but the wing moving in the crash ripped off a servo wire, so I've moved the RX to the underside of the nose. Since one of the goals was to make the plane crash resistant, I reckon this was a success.

Yes you can charge the LiPo directly with a proper charger. A LiPo charger can have any number of features, including a short charge for it to see what the battery capacity is and set itself to 1C charging current. If you can manually set the charging current to 1C, then you don't need this feature.
Another feature is a safety feature that keeps it from charging a low battery, I don't know the minimum volts, but it could be in the range of 3.0 to 3.3 Volts. If you have this feature, you must charge some other way to get it above that cutoff. Not exactly recommended, but you might get away with it. I use the NiCD mode, very carefully.
All of them have a max Volts of 4.2 but some USB chargers exceed that, that is why they are not proper LiPo chargers.

Whiskers you certainly authored a fitting farwell message. I for one am voting to keep you in your current capacity as our unpresident, as your performance has been exemplary.
