someone gave me a used o.s max 46fx today and i need to find a muffler,new glow plugs,and what fuel it uses. Also what can i clean it with cause it has some dirt and stuff on it. I dont know much about glow engines the only engine i have are cox .049. Basiclly anything i will need to get it running. any help would be great. Also if anyone knows of a good piper cub arf or kit that uses this engine that would be great. Thanks

It can use 0% to 15% aircraft glow fuel with 18% oil content. I prefer Wildcat Premium Extra 15%, but others have different fuel preferences and it depends upon what is in your area. I should have a couple spare 46FX mufflers, shoot me a PM. I prefer OS glow plugs, they recommend the #8 or #6 (old A3), depends on the fuel and prop you use.

At the very least, you'll need a glow ignitor, chicken stick and a glow plug wrench, plus some way of getting the fuel into the tank, whether it's a squeeze bulb, hand crank or electric fuel pump. On the higher end, you'll want to get an electric starter and field box etc.

would it work with 25 or 30%?

It depends, what kind of fuel. I see most 25 and 30% fuels are for RC cars and will not have enough oil content. It is has a MINIMUM of 18% (more is better) you could surely tune the engine with a cold plug and run the high nitro.

5 to 10% nitro is all you need. I use Enya #3 glow plugs but any good plug will work. All my fuel uses 10% nitro and 20% lube, mostly castor oil.

I ran 10% nitro, 20% oil in the 46 fx that I had. Ran fine with an amazing idle.

Here is a good muffler for the 46FX. This muffler will give you more RPM than the stock muffler, and it is way cheaper.

It is not in the manual, but OS strongly advises to use fuel that contains a reasonable amount of castor oil (not all-synthetic fuel).

Also, the OS #6-#8 plugs are medium-reach will remain slightly recessed in the head, when fully tightened.

The effect of this is that the plug 'behaves' cooler than it really is.

There are good, inexpensive long-reach plugs available, such as the K&B-1L, which will better fit the engine.
OS offer their own LC4 plug, which fits much better in this engine and works better (according to my experience) than the OS #8.

I am just relating my experience. I use 20% nitro and this seems to work better with the #8 than it does with the #4.

I use Merlin Glow Plugs, I have great luck with the Merlin 2006 in high nitro applications, it is a cold plug.

if i dont have a muffler and its got good compression what do you think i could sell it for cause i dont do the larger stuff right now.
