T-rex 450SA discontinuation.

When was the T-rex 450SA discontinued?

I just noticed it is no longer available in the LHS and is not listed anymore in Align websites. Only the 450 Sport and Pro V3 are available.

It is sad to see that model go as now there is no low cost plastic head T-rex anymore. The Sport and Pro are way expensive for many people that could afford the SA. Plus the SA was available in a beginner friendly ARF package.

With al the budget conscious purchasers I think this was a dumb business decision.

Sad day ?

There is a replacement for the SA, it's called hong kong 450, or exi, or whatever. The clone's are just as good as, only allot cheaper, then Trex !!
The one thing that is better wit trex is there manual's.

I know about the clones. I was talking about Align brand helicopters.

And by the way HK in the HK 450 stands for Hobby King not Hong Kong

This is off topic, so please forgive me, but it's fascinating to see this come full circle. Remember when the first Trex was the new, cheap, cool (if not heavy) machine to have? Quality and price have certainly risen over the years. And now they are being undercut by the same cycle. A dog eat dog world.

The SA is not being made any more... I have two of them

With the exception of a few lower-quality parts, the HK450 is exactly the same thing...

But the HK is not available in a nice Super Combo with all electronics already selected for you.

I wonder what motor, servos, and ESC are being used in the HK on the video, flies nice.

The SA wasn't available in a combo either as far as I know. He's using the HXT900 servos, ParkHPX tail servo, G110 gyro, Blade 400 motor, and I think the Blade 400 ESC too. He did the Scorpion upgrade on the Blade that you see in the video, and that one is nice and punchy now, so he used the Blade 400 parts on the HK, which isn't really right because it's heavier than the Blade. He's changed the HK around a bit since then, not sure what he's running now, but it seems to be ok with the cheap stuff.

We lined up this one with my SA, and it really is exactly the same except for the plastic head block. Align parts fit right on it, so you could easily take the frame and get some parts and pretty much have a Trex SA. The SA needs some power though - compared to the Blade 400 and the CF Trex, the SA is heavy. It is very well-made, but the motor that came with it wasn't really good enough - I still fly with that one though. It works but it's weak.

I found one of these 450SA ARF packages with the motor and ESC at the LHS. It is an opened box, so I'm not 100% sure everything is there, but assuming it is, how much do you think it is worth? I think they are asking $200.

Thanks

It depends on what motor and ESC it has. Originally the barebones RTF kit was priced at $200.

Yes there are places that make their own packages, but Align didn't have an 'official' combo based on the SA kit. The SA kit came with the Align 35X ESC and the 430L motor... but the Trex runs better on the 430XL motor.

That does not sound like allot for a align product, but you woul do better to consider one of these:

http://www.xheli.com/exitsecaedhe.html

It's a solid flier with carbon fibre frame and metal head/tail. The quality is top notch.

If you have the cash and don't mind waiting until they get in stock:

http://www.xheli.com/18h20-exi450pro-shaft.html

I think the Pro is the way to go, in incorporates lessons learned from the 450 SA and SE versions.

I seen some posts say the TREX 450 Pro flies like a 500 sized heli.... I'm anxious to see

$200 is the original price of the SA ARF kit, which included the ESC and motor, blades, blade holder, some spare bolts and stuff, and the manual. So I think, for an opened box kit that is out of date, they are asking too much.

SA discontinuation

Jasmine,

Did the SA include servos?

I ask because I recently bought this:

http://www.rcgroups.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1217755

I wasn't sure how good a deal it was, I'm still working with my CX2, but I read the SA is good for beginners. I'll be sure to have someone set it up for me once I get done building it.
