OFNA LX1 Ultra run time

Just got back into buggies after 25 years off by buying a OFNA LX1 RTR of Craigslist. Good condition, runs great. My 1st glow buggy.

However, after it's 1st run with me this afternoon I was surprised when it ran out of fuel in about 5, maybe 6 minutes of lively driving. The tank (150ml/5 US floz) was full with no time wasted fiddling.

I'm familiar with airplane glow engines and have several that I've tuned / didmantled with ease.

The pinch test on the low end revealed a 4-5 second peak/die time - rather rich, but I didn't want to start fiddling. I don't know how to adjust the top end as it needs to be under load to peak/richen.

I'm using fresh O'Donnells fuel 20%. OS #8 plug (would a cooler plug be better? )Of course the exhaust was smokey. Could it be to rich all round, or is 6m to be expected?

I noticed that the engine combustion chamber was nearly spotless earlier. The compression is great. I think the engine is fairly lightly used. I'm wondering if it's fully run in.

Judging by the poor trim settings on the steering, I'm thinking the previous owner wasn't a big RC guy.

Any thoughts of fuel consumption?

Gp?

Thank you for your quick reply.

What is GP?

The car wasn't instantly accelerating, but didn't gurgle or stall - I figured the clutch wasn't engaging instantly and thought no more of it until it ran out of fuel after a 5-6 mins.

I'll need to adjust the LSN leaner and then the idle setting screw to lower RPM.

However, I'm unfamiliar with how to lean the HSN sufficiently without going overboard. Can you please offer advice?

With planes you peak the RPM and turn the HSN back a few clicks for an audible drop in RPM with is confirmed by a high-speed pinch test with brief peaking of RPM before dying.

I'm not sure how to do that with a buggy as the engine ought to have a load (i.e. be driving) to adjust HSN settings. Please advise.

Thanks for your help.

PD.

Thanks for the advice.

I've seen how to adjust the low speed idle needle / screw. It's just the HS needle that I'm unsure of in a buggy.

Is it just the smoke trail that tells you you're OK on the HSN setting?
How does the GP tell you of a rich setting?

Thank you MaxOverDrive.
Seems close to ideal (i.e. a little rich now). Runs about 10 mins, I ought to measure.
