The kit arrives with a cheap 11X6 prop, which I suppose EVERYONE replaced with a better one, so why did y'all choose a set up for 11X6 prop?
Why not a 12" or 10" ?

Well I still use the original prop, but I am thinking to imporve it next week, with a 12x8. I checked my motor, esc, batttery combo with motocalc and I can go with either 12x8 or 13x7. Everything dependes in your combo.

The standard power unit gives me abour 9m/seg climb which is pretty decent for what I am using it for, height limited soaring

Who choose a 11x6 setup? I decided to go with the TR 28-30B 14A 1050Kv Brushless Outrunner which uses 10x6 prop which is the top prop for it. I always use Aeronaut props and this one is no exception. Because I am not looking for a hotliner and this bird certainly isn't why put too much power on it. 140 Watts is more than enough for Passer.

well everything depends on the actual Kv of your motor, I always test them for accuarcy and the select the prop that gives the best efficiency, a 10x6 prop works good for some motors and not so well for other, there in no rule of the thumb, you need to test bench

the standar is 3 cms, you have to check the distance between pins of your spiner. some are wider therefore giving extra lenght to the propeller

What engine fits securely in HobbyKing SS 25A ESC?

I would use the original 11x6" prop and a 3S 1300mAh 25C lipo.

I would go for a 30A it is the minimun recomended, so if you go down to 25A you are risking a fried ESC, a LiPo fire and a lost plane

2 - Motor Turnigy TR2830-1050 (http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/s...idProduct=2112)

The two will be used with a 2S Lipo.

I prefer flight duration, has great thermal here, I would only use the engine to reach them.

Because you are a thermal type of guy I would suggest to take the option No.2. The motor is lighter and has low power consuption on 2s which will give you longer flight times. Since you are not looking for a rocket this motor is right for you.

You need POWER to achieve whatever style of flight you want. Whether you pull 150W (or whatever your target power is) with a 3S or a 2S is irrelevant. With 2S you would need to pull more current than with 3S, so you'd need larger capacity cells (and probably a fairly big prop). Beware that brushless motors generally get less efficient with reduced voltage, so running an 1100Kv motor on 2S is not a recipe for power nor duration. 3S will give you more efficiency. If you want duration, you'll have to sacrifice power.
