Another AIRWOLF

Hi friends
to begin this new thread i would like to ask a Q

Do you think it could be ok to fly an Airwolf Funkey 90 (trex 700 size) with the last new Trex 550 850Kv motor with the good reduction to run the rotor at 1450 RPM??
The purpose is to fly 6 S lipo of course!

has it the power to lift the heli with complete scale (LG, pod, machine gun......)

picture will follow
I forget to explain that it will be my very first scale but like 35 years old people, for me Airwolf has been a very famous heli serie

many thx

ADF pod will be DIY and is comming
Lateral machine gun will be DIY and sliding in the wing's fuse
LG is coming too after lot of DIY

Good luck to you with the build. It is not the easiest fuselage to work with when running electric, but it makes on of the best looking Airwolfs out there. From personal experience, you will find that as you start to add your detail, the weight will balloon and your 6s system will not have the overhead to lift the extra weight. I did some calculations based on your motor and the 112t main gear and an 11t pinion (both Mod 1.) and you will have the speed (10t might be possible but no overhead) governed to fly the helicopter.

Most large scale helicopters go with 10 to 12s systems to get both duration and motor power. According to technical specs, my 6s system in my 17 pound TOW Defender should have had lots of power to run it but it struggled when pulling up from a shallow dive or trying a full pitch climb-out. The motor delivered 2700 watts power and when you calculate what it takes to hover it now, that should have been more than enough but once I changed to a 12s 3300 watt system, the lagging power disappeared and it flies like it should. You can use 3300 to 4000mAH batteries which will allow you to use the doors to load them in and there might even be enough room with the 700 size to slide them in from the top. I would highly recommend a full floor be installed rather than the wedges on their own. Hope this helps.

I would drop your motor kv to something like a 400, tops. With you swinging 700 size blades, a scale rotation speed would be something in the neighbourhood of 1350 to 1500rpm. That would be with the 112t main and a 12t pinion. Vibration is the killer of most scale helicopters, mostly as a result of the body picking up resonance from high rotation speed blades which results in some pretty spectacular break-ups before leaving the ground. You could use a 450 (very common 12s motor) as long as you drop the pinion to a 10t and land you right at 1450rpm with the 112/10 gear combination. Lots of solutions. Hope this helps. Take care.

It looks like you should have no trouble getting the batteries in and out. Nicely done.

Yes your going to want to use 12s for this size ( two 6s ) , a 6s setup would be killer on your lipo, motor ect. as far as motor KV, What speed controller are you going to use? A CC 120 HV(80HV) would help with the higher(550 KV )as if you fly govern mode it cuts your top RPM's down to maintain the set RPM's. So maybe that 550kv may work in this case. Out side that you really need a lower KV motor if your going to run flat curves.
