Flash 5X deal or steal

I'm new to R/C planes and am just getting a radio. From reading posts and talking with people I decided on the Hitec Flash 5X. I was getting it from Tower when their new catalog came. What used to be a $10 difference between the 5X with 4 hs422 and a 600mAh Rx battery and the 5X glider with 3 hs81 and a 270mAh Rx battery is now $30. Since I plan on flying mostly gliders and a only some electric would the larger servos and battery likely end up collecting dust if I went with the regular 5X instead of the glider version?

dale331, In answer to your question they will probably gather a lot of dust before you have to use them.I have a dozen regular size Futaba servos (new - never been run). When I bought my first Flash 5X I bought the Glider version with HS-81 servos. I have standardized on HS-81 for most models, HS-55 for Speed 400's, and a few HS-225's thrown in for good measure. Try and standardize on as few types of servos as you can as you should keep a few spare gears on hand for emergency repairs.

Totally agree, HS-81's are the way to go even though the package costs a little more.

Definitely get the glider version. The HS-81 servos are the standard that you will use, even in bigger stuff. They have so much power for their size and are very quick. Especially in Electric flight where weight is a killer. That full-size equipment will just sit around.
You will end up saving money by going with the glider version.

Hobby Horse will put whatever servos you want with the package for only the difference in price. Very competitive prices. Major hobby is also very competitive in price. I am not sure if they with change out servos though.

I recently gave 10 standard servos to a friend who flies gas and I still have some left-over in the garage.
