Old laptop screen for FPV?

Hey, I have an old Dell Lattitude D410 laying around, and I was wondering if the screen could be put to use for fpv.. Let me know please.

Doubtful (unfortunately). Most laptop screens have crazy 20-pin connectors or similar to a video driver/card. I looked into this while building an Xbox 360 in a briefcase and had to end up using an old desktop monitor, which have "built in" (ie it's in the back panel of the screen) video cards. They have connectors that accepted DVI...

Anyways, probably not worth the time / effort considering screens can be had for cheap. You could run a capture card / usb to get video onto the laptop? Don't know the ins and outs of it though.

So the short answer is no, you can't use it for FPV.

Can use a capture card into the laptop computer itself, which has a ADC in it. But that introduces a host of other major shortcomings, making it not worth the trouble, and dangerous (Latency, crashes, random Windows BS like updates` and memory leaks).

Just buy an LCD TV. They are cheap and do the job.

Well what is a good cheap monitor? And I think I'm gonna crack it open just for kicks and giggles.

I don't see anywhere that pc board is svga, but vga? I dunno, never tried it, but it seems like it would work??

Q: Which controller kit shall I turn to?For panels with resolution not more than 1440*900, you may choose our controller boards freely that best meet your needs:
A. With VGA port only: R.RM3251/R.RM3451

Ok I mean vga which also does svga btw

But to use for FPV all vtx give composite analog signal. Not VGA. Thus nfg for FPV.

Analog VGA is the same as component video i.e. red, green, and blue are transmitted over 3 different cables. When combined you get your video. FPV equipment is analog yes, but it's composite.

I have one of these screens and it works great. No blue screen. Can be found on ebay for cheap.

The answer is, yes, and maybe.

Yes, you can get video.

You can buy EasyCap for about $20, which plugs in USB, and takes video in and displays it..

But.. maybe it will be fit for purpose, because laptop screens are notoriously hard to see in outdoor daylight environments. Even with sunshades it can be very difficult..

You could always get an outdoor monitor. I have an 8inch one like sold at RMRC, bevrc, foxtechfpv and other places. Great for viewing outside even while wearing sunglasses.

Plenty of 9 inch Philips LCDTVs on eBay for $30-60. I recently picked up 3 of them off eBay - work great. Folks buy them for adding headrest video for their kids to watch TV in the car. Then the DVD fails and these get dumped on the market cheap.

I would love to have one like that at rmrc, but don't want to pay the price I'm worried that I'll get a cheap one then not be able to see much on it. We have a DVD player in our car, and if its daylight, you are hard pressed to see anything on that screen..
