FRSKY High precision Variometer vario for soaring??

Hi all,
I'm confused, I read good reviews about the high precision vario. I have voice readout of Vspd (which is in M/S although I'm setup for imperial) and Alt (which is given in imperial) which is nice, but the audio tone for the vario is horrible. It just beeps when the Vspd reaches whatever trigger point you set. There's no variation in the pitch, just beeping. Please tell me I'm missing something.
Compared to my Pitlab vario this thing flat out SUCKS otherwise

better vario

Hi Pete914,

Yes, it is a known issue with the actual "high precision variometer".
See my comments in the Taranis thread here:

If you are more interested in this take a search for "openvxvario"
or look here:

What transmitter are you using it with. On the Taranis, I didn't have to set up anything, except for a switch to turn it on/off, and it gives varying tones depending on vertical speed. Not as sensitive as I would like, but it seems to work fine.

thanks for the replys guys

I'm running a Taranis

How did you get varying tones?
I have the sensitivity set to -5, -1.5, .8, 5 at the moment. Pretty insensitive for a model plane IMO...
I don't see any other settings for the vario?

I don't know what to tell you. I just connected it, set up a switch to turn it off and on, and flew. Tones go higher in pitch as it climbs and lower in pitch as it descends. I don't know how to set sensitivity, so I guess it is at the default numbers.

Settings

Hi pete914,

You can make it a bit more useful with the settings:
Sensitivity set to -3, -0.1, 0.1, 3
Optionally you you can try -3, -1.0, 0.5, 3 to compensate for the natural sink rate of your plane. Try out what fit your needs.

Cheers Sascha

Just wanted to revisit this post.
Any updates on this vario? This unit is dying for a firmware update to improve the vario sounds
