Stretched Copterx 450 Black Angel Project

Last weeks or maybe even months i have researched, buyed, built and setup ( x 5 or 6 times) my first real sucessfully CP Rc Helicopter a Copterx 450 Black Angel DFC . I ended up buying 2 kits, 1 as spare parts. I now thinking of building my spare kit as a streached version...normally that would be stright forward project..just buy a stretch kit, but BA already uses the stretched belt, becouse ther is no gear but a direct belt solution who makes everything smooth and less noicy than with gear involved.

So now im starting reasearching and hope for some ideas and help under the way..just as i got on my first built..who would not been very sucessfully without the great help i got from members here. I readed some one had used Gaui 523mxl x4mm tail belt for doing same..together with the Tarot 480 stretched tail. Ref http://www.helifleet.com/copterx-450...-stretch/h3432

I found http://www.gaui.com.tw/product/x3-se...3-belt-522mxl/ but no 523..

I want to built this...

522MXL is this a belt size standard?

Search for MXL belts online.

You can combine a longer belt with your own custom tail boom, cut from a carbon fibre tube of the right diameter. Not sure if the BA uses 12mm or 14mm. Otherwise using the Tarot 480 boom, you need a specific length.

The following listing gives loads of belt lengths in 1/8" width, tho unfortunately they're not in ascending or descending order of length, so you have to trawl thru it. Maybe you can end up with a code that will lead you to a source where you can buy one or two belts rather than a thousand!

Edit: just clicked on the 498 belt, which is what my Forza uses. Minimum order is 20!

ok great, i got the idea now...How should i estimate length? I see the setup i found uses 523: http://www.helifleet.com/copterx-450...-stretch/h3432. Will a 523 MXL be same lenght from different providers?

BA uses 12mm tail boom.. How much longer is the 480 boom? My BA tailboom is 33cm
My current belt is same as tarot stretched belt:453T

The MXL belt pitch is 2.03mm - so for every 2 additional teeth or grooves, you will need a boom that's 2.03mm longer.

If a heli can use up to 325mm blades and you wanted to stretch it to use 360's, the boom would need to be 35mm longer, and maybe a bit more if you were also going to use longer tail blades, so let's say 40mm longer. The belt would then need to be at least 40t more, which would make it 493. You could maybe use the 498t belt from the Forza. Getting a belt with 530t or so would enable the use of even longer blades, maybe 370 or 375.

Unless you were going to turn the BA into a "floater", running only a moderate HS, I might be a bit concerned about the strength of the maingear when stretched.

Floater with moderate HS would be great....i think 36cm blades best for me, i think no easy supply of 370-380 etc

You think there referance of 523MLX with the 480 tarot boom is wrong? How long is forza tailboom compared to tarot 480?

I think the Forza boom may be a tad shorter than the Tarot 480 one. The maximum blade length is 350mm, and I know some people have stretched it using a longer boom and a 522 belt. The Forza uses a 14mm diameter boom however, same as the Mini Titan, compared with 12mm for Trex and clones.

Going back to your original links, I don't think there's such a thing as a 4mm wide MXL belt. The MXL spec is Imperial, with a tooth pitch of 0.080", and available in widths from 1/8" and up. It looks to me like there's a big difference in the price charged by the manufacturer, albeit for an order with maybe 20 units, compared with the resellers prices!

1/8"

Just the same as the existing belt - which will be 1/8". My 450 Pro's use a 1/8" 397MXL belt, and my Forza a 1/8" 498MXL, and the one on my 500 looks like 541MXL, tho the printing is half off the belt so it's hard to tell. It's still only 1/8" wide tho.

Yeah, the price isn't too steep on that, but you might be able to find one for less. I'm still using 450 Pro belts I bought in a pack of 5 from eBay, and they worked out about $0:50 each!

This thread is getting crowded, tho - who are all these other posters?

you'll also need a longer tail rod - so either use a carbon one, or a source for the wire and a die to cut a thread on it.

don't just move the tail servo back on the boom, that will be ugly!

Yes, the carbon rod needs a single guide that's different from the ones used for the wire rod. Some carbon rods use a large enough diameter carbon tube that no guide is needed.

Looks like you've got it all going on tho, so it will be interesting how it works out. I'm not a big fan of black main blades, so I would probably paint them or find mostly white ones.

We may make it to page 2 before anyone else posts!
