My Maiden

Yup, today was the day I maidened my brand new UMX Pitts. Let me tell you guys, VERY, VERY cool plane At least for the first four minutes of pure bliss. Then it happened. Ole' Mikey boy just had to get cocky (my nature) I almost pulled it off. Damage not bad at all. Now I know (expected) where the weak points are. Those wing struts (?) are very delicate. I tried a field repair to no avail.

Once everything is back together, I was planning on installing round CF (very thin 1.00 mm) that I use on my rudders on the small planes, Champ, Carbon Cub, etc.

I will install one piece on each side of the struts. Both sides (port/starboard).

Any other ideas on this Guys?

Mike.

I'm not helping you at all, at least until you tell me what you "almost pulled off."

(The carbon's a good idea, shouldn't add hardly any weight.)

OK then. I was doing great on my rolls and loops. I got her up high and tried to hover (need much practice) so I decided from that point I'd try a downward spiral and was looking great. Man can that Pitts fall to earth rather quickly (lesson 1) That's when I said "I almost pulled it off." If a novice was on the sticks, that plane would have ended up in a million pieces. Not bragging or nothing

Happy flying Fellas,
Mike.

I had to read your post again Ben. "Flat spin"? Exactly what is that? On a downward spiral I give full left or right rudder.

I need more input

Sounds more like barrel roll on the down line if you had some aileron with the rudder. A good looking move if you stop at one...
