Official Cal Valley F3B Contest, Nov 23-24
This is the official contest announcement for the two day F3B contest in California Valley. The official contest days will be Saturday and Sunday. Friday will be a practice day with 6 round speed cup in starting around 2pm.
CD will be Aaron Valdes, observing the current FAI sporting code for F3B. There is nothing in the rules that would prohibit anyone from coming with an F3J model. Just bring your ballast! I will bring the puck style sighting devices from the 2010 team selections. Let's do our best to keep winches legal, but since this isn't the team selection, we should try to promote participation and sharing of winch equipment when needed.
Please bring your current AMA card. I will be checking them, though I don't think there is a reason to officially sanction this contest.
Participants should RSVP with Ken at the Cal Valley Motel. Please send an email to him at firstname.lastname@example.org. I have blocked out 10-12 rooms for that weekend, just mention that you are with the glider group that Aaron reserved. Please remember that he only takes cash or check. The nearest ATM is in Santa Margarita or down the 58 at the Interstate 5. So please come prepared.
I will start the official participant list here, please respond to this thread and we will keep track of everyone who is in and who is out! I would like to try to run the contest using Tim Traver's program. For any questions I can be reached at my home email: aaron dot valdes @ cox dot net
*** Update - After having some discussions with the US team, we have come up with an interesting plan. One of each of the sitting US team members (Darrell, David and Tom) will serve as the "team captain" for the first three teams. We will then select the remaining members of the teams a random. The purpose of this is to allow as many people as possible to get exposure to working with a top pilot on their team.
If we have enough people for the contest, we will use Kyle as the fourth team captain, then Mike Lachowski, Mike Smith, etc. It would be a dream to have that many teams I hope everyone likes this idea. It is great to have the top pilots flying on each team so that they get the opportunity to fly against other US team pilots, and I am excited to work with them and get up to speed on current techniques!! ***

Since the crowd that could make use of it is lurking in this thread...I have a sighting device and tripod for sale...one of several that Thomas Akers procured new for the 2010 TS contest, and then sold afterwards. It is an engineer-grade tripod with multiple adjustments, leveling bubble, hold-down ring and all that. The puck is machined aluminum drilled for the included carbon sighting rods.
Used for the TS contest, then purchased by me...has not been outdoors since. Pristine condition. Would just like to get back what I have in it.
$225 complete, and can be handed off to someone going to the CV contest.
Please see the update I just posted at the top. We would like to modify the standard format to help everyone get exposure to the top pilots and force them to fly against eachother for score! This is very exciting!!
